Ways to effectively promote a niche business directory with $10,000 per month budget?

Hi Warriors,

I've got a question that no doubt some of you will be able to contribute to.

If I had a niche specific business directory, say a dentist directory, which lists dentists in a particular city - what would be the best ways of driving targeted traffic to the directory with a perpetual budget of $10,000 per month?

Things to keep in mind:

- Business directory is niche specific
- Business directory is for only one city

So we need marketing that focuses on drawing in leads specific to the industry and from within a specific geographical location. This isn't a roadblock but I did want to make it very clear - so that any responses to this thread take the above factors in to account.

Now, regarding the advertising spend:

I figure using the $10,000 on a various set of marketing methods is best. Things like Facebook ads, Google PPC and SEO come in to mind.

SEO takes time, so while it is something that should be considered - the focus would be on creating leads right from the start and for that we need advertising that brings visitors now, not in a few months.

For this reason I would allocate approx. 10% - 20% of the advertising budget to SEO - which would build up slowly over time.

What advice would you have on the remaining 80% to 90% ($8,000 - $9,000)?

Hopefully we get a few good responses in here.

Kind Regards
Chris

      Chris,

With a budget like that, I would think you at least ought to consider offline marketing. Of course it opens up many strategies and avenues for you, but here's my thinking. . .

Online marketing will only take you so far. The leads you will get will be all over the map (meaning some will be hot, some luke warm, some cold.)

Leads that can come from offline marketing, especially since you are limiting the universe of prospects to a specific city, can be very hot and super targeted.

For the best results, use paid advertising to build a prescence online that lasts and test all of the initial results to see what works the best. YouTube ads, Google AdWords display/search ads, Facebook ads, and mobile advertising can all help you get the word out there. Start by spending equal amounts of money on each method and see what gets the best return in web traffic, social media followers, views on YouTube, and additional business listings. The methods that work the best should be scaled to the threshold that the local market can handle (i.e. there are only so many local search terms worth bidding on with traffic).

As with personal training, a visit to the doctor, or any other specialized field, an online advertising expert can help you do all of this while maximizing the effective of your budget and minimizing the pain of learning. That could start with a message to me if you can work strictly online or are in Sarasota. If you want someone in person, I recommend searching for a ReachLocal consultant or finding the best online marketing company in your area.

I've used Reachlocal for PPC. I wouldn't recommend it. Worst service that I've ever encountered. Look for their reviews online. Lots of people have been scammed!
