Free Images at What Price?

I recently came across a website which offers free images for your website or blog.

Imonomy offers free images which are supposedly content based.

The deal is you put a bit of code on your website of blog and the service will find images which are content related to your page

according to the company:

imonomy has developed a special algorithmic engine, which is able to analyze any text in order to instantly find content-related images. This unique engine also creates intelligent links between your website pages, which are meant to encourage website visitors to stay on your pages longer. The interactive links make it easier to navigate through more of your websites content, and the best part is, imonomy is free!
Here is the link:

How they make money is by displaying their own ads on your page, which are supposedly non-intrusive.

They also have an income component:

After successful integration, we offer the option to share revenue back with you
My question is:

Has anyone tried this service? What do you think?

Do you feel the trade off of having code from an outside source to generate images worthwhile?

If this is the case, then it cannot be called free images

How true... We all know nothing is really free, but the question is: is it worth it.

You're better off just outsourcing graphics rather than letting someone else run ads on your site because I feel like in most cases it takes a lot away from the visitors experience. Never heard of anyone using this service though

Why not just use another site for free images? One that does not put ads on your site?

They probably just randomly substitute the image with an adsense-like advertising block in place of the image.

In which case, why anyone would do that when they can get decent quality images, that you select to enhance your content, for a dollar or less at places like PhotoDune.net and DepositPhotos.com, is beyond me.

Even with revenue sharing, you're still going to be better served by buying your own image and keeping 100% of your advertising.

Quit the bs posts please. Getting sick of this kind of stuff, this forms beginning to remind me of another...

Personally, I would never give someone free ads on my site for the sake of an image. Unless the image was super high quality or even exclusive to my site there's no way it would be to a financial benefit unless your site never makes any money anyway!

They are not free, but I have often found excellent graphics very reasonably priced at https://us.fotolia.com/

I suppose, if you have a low traffic site, then it's worth it. But why would you run ads that you don't get any revenue from? Better, I would have thought, to spend a little while finding suitable images yourself and then adding some unobtrusive ads from which you can gain an income.

Just my thoughts, 'cos I've never actually tried that service. I mostly use my own photos.

Yes Jordan, I just looked at their website. I was wrong. I was assuming that they got all the revenue. My bad.

I like the pretty pictures, but they are not matching the content I am using. People get that for which they pay. Sadly, that is true now more an ever.

Interesting idea. I could not work out from that site how intrusive the ads would be or exactly how it worked. Even the advertiser details did not explain very well how it worked.

Would like to see an actual site working with this.
