I know exactly how you feel. Things only started to happen for me when I set aside all the information I had been collecting and decided to take it one small step at a time. Because so much information is available to us we feel we need to know EVERYTHING before we begin - big mistake!

Even if you decide to eventually outsource your web design, you really do need to start by learning a few BASIC web skills. I'm like you - definately not a techie whizz kid, so if I can do it ANYONE can! A simple one page website will get you started online. Its a great idea to offer something FREE in return for a name and email address. Those who opt-in become your LIST - the people you hope will become your customers!

My advice is don't do what everyone else does. Most spam boards, send spam emails. Very ineffective. What I'm trying to do right now is trying stuff that hasn't been done before. Or kind of "old school" tactics. Because if someone 10 years ago was making more money then than I am making now. Then obviously they were doing something right.
Also, don't get discouraged when you dont make a bajillion dollars overnight. It all takes time. If it happened that quickly I would be scared that the FBI would be jumping from helicopters through my roof and tazing me.
So just put in the work. And remember, as with anything, you always get out of it what you put into it.

I can identify with being overwhelmed. I've been trying to get traction in internet marketing for over a year now. I've made a few bucks, but nothing to quit my day job. I always seem to get distracted and get overloaded with info. I've found this board very helpful. There is also a free training course. If you Google thirty day challenge, you should be directed to their homepage. A new course is starting in 2 months, but you can also still access the 08 course. Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to marketing! You've already been given some great advice in this thread -- but if you're like most new people a few things might happen.

1. You are met with information overload and you don't know what step to take first
2. You choose a business model, but get distracted by the next "shiny object"
3. You choose a business model and stick with it until you are successful

Obviously, choice 3 is your best bet. Still, don't get down on yourself (and don't give up) if you don't understand the terms and what to do at first. Keep your eye on the prize and realize that you have the smarts to make this happen -- and that everyone was new at first.

Try your very best to model someone who is successfully doing what you want to do -- whether that's affiliate marketing, creating your own products, creating niche websites, or offering a service like web design or ghostwriting.

Don't float from project to project ... do one thing at a time until you are successful (or until you've determined that it's a time waster).

You've been given some good advice not to buy too many ebooks/products, just keep in mind that there ARE things you need to learn. Buying products that fit in with your chosen business model can help you earn an income online faster.

One book I recommend in particular is "5 Bucks a Day" (Google it) -- this book should be required reading for every new Internet marketer. It will help you focus, and make this working online thing seem far more manageable.

This happens to lots of people. It's a mixture of analysis paralysis and getting hit from all angles about different ways to make money online.

1) Pick a method you like the sound of and just go for it.
2) Stick with it and give it your best shot until you see real meaningful results. Don't do it for a few days then move onto something else. FOCUS.
3) During this time ignore the latest product launches and latest 'must have' thing.
4) The technical aspect depends on what you want to do but you can EASILY outsource things you can't do or if you are time rich and cash poor, learn how to do them from online tutorials and/or books.
5) Believe in yourself. You can do this but it's time to take action now. I'll let you in on a secret, all the ebooks in the world sitting on your hard drive won't make you a dime until you put the wheels into motion.

Hi i started in Feb 09 , and have been making nearly $1000 a month for 2 montha already alot to do with a bit of luck and alotof hours (BUT ITS FUN) but i think the best thing to do is spend some money buy a course anything, and read it and do it. You say you already have info overload , then take the info you have and do the stuff thats free and you will learn,
open a hosting account i personaly use hostmonster, becuase of easy domain names and hosting and use your free $50 adwords you get with hostmonster trying PPC free.

You know it's funny, I'm just writing a special report to give away for my optin list about 10 ways to make money with very little capital (or something like that... haven't worked the details out yet!), and I JUST Got done writing about that exact topic (information overload) Jen Dize is spot on. Pick something and stick with it.

The challenge is not can you make money. Marshall Sylver says there are a million ways to make a million dollars and he's right... The ? then is how do I want to do it.

I just keep hearing Marshall in the back of my mind here, so here's some more things that i've learned from him along the way.

Gather up all the AVAILABLE Data... notice the word available... that doesn't mean ALL the data...Many people think they have to wait until they know everything about something before they can make a decision and they end up getting caugh in paralysis of analysis analyzing everything...

In otherwords, take what you have right now at your fingertips and move on to step 2 which is make a decision.

He also goes on to say that wealthy people are quick to make a decision and slow to change their minds. If you pick up a copy of his book "Passion, Profit and Power", he shows you an eye opening exercise that shows all of the time that gets wasted on not making decisions.

And remember, not making a decision, is ultimately making a decision.

So pick something and run with it. Again, going back to Marshall, the idea is to "Fail Forwarrd Fast", becasue the sooner you find something that doesn't work, the sooner you can alter the choice and do something different. But if you stay stuck wondering wich one is the right decision you've wasted all of that time and are still no closer to your outcome. At least if you picked something that didn't work, your that much closer to finding something that does.

And by the way, if you're wondering who in the heck Marshall Sylver is, google him. He's the shiz.
