Need help with product creation

I've been deeply entrenched in my off-line business (technology based) for 13 yrs. I would like to create a video based info-product targetted to my niche.

I have a great deal of knowledge and a ton of notes that I need help turning into a video course - approx. 12 chapters, 3-parts ea. avg. 7 min. per part.

Can anyone recommend the best writer for the job?

Thanks,
-Robert

When you say you want to create a video based info-product.. surely you don't want a writer, but video creation software?

    Is that what you mean?

Also.. are you going to be presenting this video yourself, or are you referring to screen recordings?

It helps to give as much info as possible to get the best advice

No, I want someone to script the video, which will also be used as a downloadable, printable course.

I intend to present the videos myself.

I have a detailed outline of my topics, and I can convey my intended concepts to the writer I'd like to hire, who will then translate them into a compelling script (broken into multiple chapters).

However... if you are the expert on the subject you plan to teach on the course... surely it would save you money doing it yourself?

You say you have a ton of notes and a great deal of knowledge... no top writer can convey that, only you. Plus, I personally don't like watching videos that are clearly scripted.. I would rather hear it as if its done by the true expert (you) via notes (which you have)

Just a few things to think about?

Some of the most successful video courses/products are simple videos recorded with a basic camcorder. You might want to consider writing an ebook from your notes and then offering the video either as a back end product or a membership site.

If you decide to go with the videos first, try condensing the material into more generalized segments, then offering additional free information for email marketing and building your list.

I'm not looking to save money, I'm looking to get this project completed, and writing this course myself will almost surely take long enough to kill the project.

I disagree that no top-notch writer can convey my ideas. I think a top notch writer would take a long winded chapter written by me, knock out the unnecessary rambling, strengthen the key points and make it a lot more interesting without losing my main point. Rather than start with me writing long-winded chapters, I'd rather start with having a writer translate my ideas, with which I could then come back with what I think might be missing.

I expect that the writing would be done with the vision that the lesson will be read into a camera. I intend to memorize the lesson first, so that I don't come across as reading from index cards. The videos will also have animations and diagrams integrated at appropriate points to help keep things clear and interesting.

Thanks. Is there an open-source product that's similar to camtasia? Is there a downside to using an open-source product rather than purchase Camtasia?

I agree with you. For my video lessons, I always script them out first. Then, have the scripts typed up and turned into transcript/manual. Makes for a professional product.

However, I can't understand why you would then want to cheap out on the software. Camtasia isn't that expensive, and one of the best investments I've ever made.

            Have to agree with Kevin!

I believe they were giving the 3rd version away.

            Anyway here's a 30 day trial:

Not looking to cheap out on the software at all. It's affordable. It's just that in my 90 second peek I took at Camtasia, I saw what looked to be a very similar, free, open-source product, which came recommended on another thread on video creation. I thought it might possibly be as widely used by Warriors as Camtasia.

I'm happy to pay for the best software to get the job done. Thanks for the advice.

You could always do a slide show presetation video using CamStudio (free) then get it transcribed as a report. That seems like the easiest way for you to go. That way you don't have to hire a writer first then go thorough the process of turning into a slide show then doing the video, etc.
