Business and Blog unrelated. Any way to cross promote?

Hi guys, I have spent some time here lurking recently and this seems like a really great community.

Some background to start. I have just started a business (social media marketing and computer/networking services) and finished my website. It is very new and I don't even have a client yet. I have also reserved a domain for a blog I am building. I have been writing posts for the blog but nothing is online yet. This blog is completely unrelated to tech or marketing. It is wholly focused on positivity, heroism, and driving people to do good things for others.

Now my question is, is it worth cross promoting in any way and connecting these two sites together? I don't think it would really work directly so I was considering making posts on my business FB page about the blog from time to time, or putting an ad on my blog for my business. If I don't specifically say I'm the same guy on both sides I wasn't sure if that was dishonest or something, or even if that matters.

Thanks for any advice. If I should have put this in a more specific forum, sorry for the mistake.

If they are unrelated, no. It's confusing and a bad user experience.

I also think it probably isn't.

You might get a little bit of "curious traffic", possibly (at best), but no targeted traffic if they're unrelated. I wouldn't.

I have to agree. The two key qualities that are needed with traffic are targeted and quality. With two unrelated things, you would get neither.

    Thank you.

What about using one of my ad spots on the blog for my business page? I haven't messed with ads much so I'm not sure if I would end up with more by putting a targeted ad there instead

    I disagree with nay-sayers.

Never ask IF you can.. ask HOW you can.

How can you pull leads from your 'do good' blog and encourage them to purchase your social media services?

I'd offer an email series that encouraged people to start non-profit organizations and then use your social media service to promote and drive traffic to help them do better.

Then.. you're doing all kinds of good.

Your mission is more about helping people looking to do good do good, and you're helping them solve a major roadblock of traffic with your social media services.

Never ask CAN I... always HOW can I.

You probably won't get massive conversions of people signing up... no. In fact, many people won't start a non-profit at all! But if you could help form a few small non-profit organizations that are out there in the world doing good.. I think it'd be a huge bonus to doing a little cross promotion to your social media services.

Nothing is impossible if you put your mind to it.

    Good luck!

      wow what an amazing suggestion.

      Thank you for the idea!

I had not thought of anything like that and I'm really going to try to implement something along those lines. It fits right in line with my blog but on a much larger scale.

      Rock on

Also there's a couple other niches besides non profits - there's a fairly large market with self help products/services and lots of people with books/products that might need a website or help with marketing and finding new clients. You could use the blog and set it up as a niche for finding those people and helping them market their products. Lots of room for cross promotion with other people. Build up a network of related self help/positivity people, offer value, build trust, keep in contact, offer your services...
