How To Avoid Merchants?

I want to target furniture however whenever I perform searches such as "cheap dining tables" all I ever see are merchants and eBay. I never see any affiliate sites or any magazine style websites. They are all merchants.

Am I doing something wrong, am I misunderstanding how to be an affiliate?

By only seeing hundreds of merchants it was is making me so paranoid about being an affiliate marketer.

No, I am already registered with Affiliate Window.

It could be because there aren't many affiliates promoting furniture, or if there are they haven't figured out how to get their website to rank highly in google. Possibly a big opportunity for you?!

        Thanks,

Am I just being paranoid. Its not because Google hates affiliate sites is it and penalises them?

Have made one error of not putting no_follow links on the product links from my site which I have now fixed. My site is around 3 years old but I haven't touched it for 1 year as I went to college and had a full time job.

Yea, because of the keyword Google will put buyer intent sites at the first page that is the result of their new algorithim

Thanks, so what does this tell me. Are you saying that Google deliberately gives advantage to merchants?

If so how can affiliates rank well on Google?

Not exclusively merchants as such, but rather established brand names in most cases, and yes it's most likely due to their algorithm changes.
However, it seems that many of affiliates sites didn't yet manage to recover from this, but I have no doubt that the best of them eventually would.
But word of advice would be is go where your potential customers are, social networks, specialized forums, etc.
