Trying to turn cyber dust to cyber cash

Hey guys:

I recently came across a few success stories of folks selling books on Kindle. Though I am quite busy with other projects and products, I thought about my E-Book that I've had for a while. I had a site up for a while, but nothing was really happening with it. I sold a few copies, but didn't really do much to try to grow it.

Anyway, I thought that some money off of it would be better than no money, if you get my drift. So, I am deciding to run it on Kindle.

It's a short, 15-20 page E-Book on how to get resolutions from companies that don't deliver on their warranties or that provide poor customer care. I've used the techniques that I've detailed to get quick, positive results from Verizon, HP, Dell, and Sprint, just to name a few, with the resolutions ranging from a few dollars to much larger amounts.

From what I've read, I can put it on Kindle at .99 cents, but then I'd only receive 30% of the revenue. However, if I list it at $2.99 and up, I can get 70% of the revenue.

I am thinking about hiring someone on Fiverr to edit it, give it a fresh cover, a new title, and I am thinking about doing a small edit of the last part of the book. I thought that maybe, for $20, I can get a good edit on Fiverr.

What goes into marketing a book like this on Fiverr?

What would be better - the .99 or the $2.99 option?

I do advertise a "back end" service, but don't really foresee many people signing up for it. Basically, my service is where I do the work towards getting the resolution, but I am thinking about making it "3-tiered" - $27, $57, and $97, or something like that.

Of course I want it to do well, but if I could just generate an extra $500 a month from this, I'd be quite happy. (Actually, anything is better than nothing, particularly with this just sitting on my hard drive, collecting cyber dust.)

Thanks,

Jeremy

    Try both.

It just depends on a lot of different things- the niche, how long it is, your description, etc.

Some authors do better with 99 cents, others are $2.99.

And some claim their best prices are at kinda weird price points, like $1.99 or $5.99.

If there was a "best", everyone would be doing it. :-p

Sounds like a really interesting book with a real market that could use the help!

Make sure you get a good editor though - the Kindle readers are not very forgiving and are known to trash a book for bad editing and spelling errors.

As far as the price point goes - You can switch it around, so why not start it with 2.99 and the occasional free day? You can always go to 0.99 later if needed.

If your description is great and you have great reviews, though, you should be able to sell it for $2.99 - and that means you'll be making more than $2 per book, as opposed to $0.30 or so.

At least that's my 2 cents... Good luck!

Be VERY wary of choosing an editor on fiverr, or any site for that matter. You want somebody with a proven track record who or you'll only get refund requests. I would recommend spending a bit more and having it done right. Look in the Warriors for Hire section here to find some excellent people who charge varying rates.

I have a friend with a Fiverr gig for editing. Send me a PM and I'll find the link for you. It will cost you more than $5 (it's 5 per x#-pages). She does line editing only (grammar/spelling, etc).

How about for graphics? I feel that the syntax, grammar, and spelling are just right the way that they are. I would, however, opt for some new graphics (particularly the cover) and a new "look."
