How To Promote A Brand New Content Site

I have a question for everyone. How do I promote my new content site? My wife and I have just started a brand new site that chronicles our adventures in online marketing. This site is all about the "How To" of blogging and marketing. We are writing about experiences up to now and we want to show our readers the exact money will pull in on a monthly basis. The most important thing is that we want to show them every single step we are doing.

BUT...how do we go about promoting a site like this?

All of our prior sites have been keyword aligned and basic informational sites that rank very high in the google searches, thus bringing in the organic traffic and paying us very well. This site is all about helping others get into the game and the posts are about what we feel are the best practices to be successful and how we are implementing them on the site.

Any ideas for some traffic besides adwords and article marketing would be greatly appreciated. We are willing to pay for the traffic...that is not an issue. Any sources that are pretty cheap?

Well your last post got deleted and now its in your signature. Any one even a newby of a month can tell that they want no part of it.

If you really want to know how to go about this then listen.

Get rid of most those ads. I don't even put ads on new blogs for three months. Your never going to go up in the serps with all that on there and may get penalized for it.

Now be more down to earth, don't make claims of half a million when they can see that site is less than a month old and no rank whatsoever on alexa.

It just isn't going to work the way you have it man.

      I agree with this.

If you really want to create a IM journey blog and build a following, you're def gonna have to ditch all those ads.

Your blog SCREAMS newbie and the only thing it exhibits is desperateness to make money.

My blog is an IM journey blog; however, I had to put it some hardwork to build up it's traffic, my rep/creditably, and brand.

And I'll be honest with you, it ain't easy, but it is doable.

Take a different approach and take this advice.

If you want some one on one guidance, I'll be happy to lend you a hand, for free. I'd hate to see you continue to struggle. Just shoot me a PM.

      Ti

P.S. Get rid to the 500k claims; it's not a good look and not relatable, even if it is true.

If you want to tell people how you were successful even to the point of earning $500,000, then do the same things you did to earn it elsewhere on this site. Can't be that much difference.

Guest posting on similar blogs is probably your best bet. There are tons of marketing blogs and you can write articles for their websites and put a link back to yours to get targeted traffic.

$500,000 and you're looking to promote a new content site? I'd retire then get fat and sit on my $500,000 for the rest of my life. It's questions your credibility though... if you make $500,000 a month online, shouldn't you be an online marketing pro? Why would you need help with promoting a simple content site?

It was $500,000 over 4-5 years, not per month. I wish it was per month. Believe it or not, after the government takes there 50% cut from self employment taxes and income taxes and state taxes and local taxes and medicare taxes and all the other taxes that I have tried to forget about, we have spent the remaining 40-50k per year on living. So I am looking to capitalize on my knowledge of affiliate marketing in a new area.

So...how can I promote a new site on the cheap?

I agree with the above comments. If you have been able to make 40-50k a year from affiliate marketing and blogging then you should be talking about that in a personal way on your blog. Plus you would have the answer to your question on how to grow your blog and get traffic etc as you are already saying you are a blogging teacher. If you are new to blogging, then you are better off saying that and the showing each week what you are doing to gain more traffic using seo, social media, guest blogging and other techniques.

Thank you for your post Debbie. I am guessing you did not look at the posts over at my blog. Some are tips and some are about my beginnings and how I started to make my money. Just like with any blog, they can't all be me talking about past actions. I keyword search and write some of the articles about topics that will bring in new readers as well as personal posts that chronicle my sites. AND...no, I am not new to blogging. I am new to using wordpress as my site structure.

          Thanks again for the comment,

          Ryan

I'm not saying anything but I just wanted to point something out...

You can't lie to people and make money (well, you can but don't)

If you genuinely made 500K in IM, take what you know and apply it.

    Best of luck to you!

You already have IM ideas, you just made $500k.

If you genuinely made $500k doing IM then you just need to put back what you did to earn such huge sales and rest assured you will definitely succeed in your new venture.

    Good luck!

people are not really stupid, as much as you would like to believe.

    link exchange
make a few ebooks, spread them,
make a few videos/ spread them

make a few themes , spread them.

dont' claim money, claim authority, keep it adfree for 3 months.

    and watch the $$ roll.

If you're actually writing a chronicle of your journeys, do so. I just went to your site and was completely turned off by the blog titles. There's nothing personal about your posts. As a matter of fact, they're very basic - they don't seem like they're written by someone who has already earned $500k.

Also, like others have said, the Google Ads have got to go - especially the one right at the top under your header.

That page at the top offering advertising space bothers me a lot as well. Your site is barely up and running and you're charging a LOT for advertising space. Plus, the ads you have in the sidebar are all affiliate ads, not real ads. You're making it look like you have a ton of advertisers when you do not.

Finally, the sponsored post ad option IS going to bite you in the ass sooner or later. Most people who do serious guest posting will NOT pay for a sponsored ad because Google will eventually slap them on the wrist for paying for ads (and they will find out about it because you're so blatant about advertising that you charge for sponsored posts/links).

If you're serious about having people sign up for your newsletter - the opt-in box should be at the TOP of your page, not the bottom.

I don't mean to sound harsh, but... those are my initial reactions to your page.

Actually, thank you for your advice. I put the newsletter sign up at the top right as you suggest. I deleted the ads underneath the header. This is the first time I have used wordpress for a site. I have hand coded all my other sites and wanted to try something a little easier with this one. As for the paid sponsors, of course I have affiliate offers in there until they are filled with real sponsors. Can you tell me what a good price is for a new site ad? This is also a first for me. I have been strictly adsense, clickbank, and CJ for all my other sites. Believe it or not, we were able to bring in a ton of traffic on our sites and that same technique is not working as well, so seo intensive sites here we come.
