Need Help Finding A Business Need?

Okay, I think I got a post that won't be removed this time lol. I will keep it simple.

I want to start a new business. When I do this would be my 7th business at this point.

I've recently learned that 'finding the pain' is key to a successful business and the first place to start.

1.) What are different ways you can find a pain point? Why would you recommend or not recommend it?

I'll start with a few ways:
- Cold Calling random business owners and ask the most difficult task they do during the day.
- Talking to strangers and asking problems they face daily.
- Google Keyword Tool

Finding a pain point that is good = making money.

I'll start with this for now and ask more questions later.

I think this one stuck, because you removed your sig

To answer your question, I just head over to Yahoo Answers and see what people are asking. Another option is going to forums where people in that niche hang out and see what questions people keep asking every day.

      A few other alternatives:
      • Targeted online surveys with an incentive to respond
      • Check popularity of books at Kindle and Amazon books looking for those that specifically address solutions to problems. Also read the reviews of these books as folks often say things like "I wish this book ad addressed ________."
      • Look for magazines that are specifically published to help folks with common problems.
      • Facebook, Yahoo Groups, etc where a bunch of people have joined others to discuss their common problems.
      • Use search suggestion tools to see what problems people are trying to find solutions for - the more folks looking, the more interest in that "pain"
      • Check the Dummies series of books. If there's a book written on a problem, there's a good chance it is very common. There are something like 5,000 books in the Dummies series.
I'm sure their are other ways to find what you're looking for - just use your brain and get a little creative.

      Good luck to you,

      Steve

Thanks Steve, I never considered those options before that is pretty interesting.

    Pretty good idea also. Thanks!

    P.S

This is kind of an odd unrelated question but how do you view someones signature? I don't see anyone's signatures in my browser for some reason.

      It depends on the context.

If they're starting a thread to discuss something specifically relevant to their sig-file, I look askance at it, myself.

I'm not sure your signature was the reason your initial post was deleted. I think the video and the mention of the website were the problem. They came across as very promotional.

If you can't see signatures, that's almost certainly because the option to see them is disabled in your profile. Click on "User CP" - near the top left of any page here - and then on "Edit Options" in the drop-down menu. Then on the next page scroll down to the part headed "Thread Display Options" and check the box marked "Display signature files". Then scroll to the bottom of that page and click the "save changes" button. That should fix it.

just think about something you do in your typical day that bugs/annoys you and think, would this bother other people too? if nothing bugs you then you got to start reaching out to friends or like you said other businesses

Go on forums and find the most discussed and most active threads, which means many people are in need of a solution to the problem. Or you can yourself ask the people in the forums about their "pains". I think this is a good way to create a great product.

Alright, I got signatures on now, thanks Alexa! Was wondering why I couldn't see anyone's signatures , I can see now why they removed my original post. I had just put on my signature right after posting ...thinking hmm I guess it doesn't matter since no one can see my signature anyways , guess that explains that. I can see why he would think it would be promotional then.

I guess that answers my other question, so are you not allowed to link to a video? What is the rules with linking to videos? What if my video shows an example of what it is I'm trying to do to see if there is a pain? The video I was going to link didn't sell anything or promote my personal blog site in anyway. Just was a sample of what I think would be valuable if someone did it.

I can link it again if you would like to see it and judge for yourself, we can always remove my post right away if you feel it's not good. I'm trying to judge what I can do and can't do and what things come across incorrect so I can avoid the wrath of the admins which I seem to be really good at annoying somehow...lol (unintentionally of course).

It's just really hard to explain the concept without a video to show it.

Links to anything on your own IM website, at all, whether video or text, are very unlikely indeed to survive undeleted, if anyone "reports" them. The context predicates that that's a little different from someone in the aquarium business putting up a link to their fish-tank site and saying "Please advise me about this page ..." or whatever, you know?

In a forum with over 600,000 members, a significant proportion of whom have business interests connected with promoting things to internet marketers, it has to be that way. You surely can't expect the few, unpaid, volunteer official moderators to play through everyone's videos to see whether or not each individual one is promoting anything? Nobody has time for this. The forum would rapidly descend into a spam-haus (more than it is at the moment, I mean), if that were allowed here.

Well actually... in my original post I was linking to a youtube video not a video on my website.

Wouldn't that be okay? I see other posts where people link to funny videos and such from youtube. This may be in the context of business, but it's youtube and does not advertise my business (that I don't have yet ...lol) in any way.

Perhaps this is still too risky though for reasons you stated?
