110K List, Clubbing Niche - What's the Strategy?

Hi guys

One of my longterm business partners is sitting on 110K email addresses in the electronic music / rave / festival / clubbing niche.

The addresses are mainly from event ticket stubs (he is a promoter), and swaps with other promoters.

The lists are contained on Excel spreadsheets at present, and are not residing on any autoresponder services.

I told him that he's sitting on a goldmine - but would like some input from you Warriors, as to how these lists could be monetized?

Of particular interest, would be 'lower-priced' autoresponder strategies, such as server based solutions. Just had a look at arpReach (Autoresponse Plus) which looks pretty good.

One last thing.. Please don't suggest trying to sell these guys 'glow sticks' - the rave crowd in the UK are a lot more edgy than overseas markets, and they would laugh in our faces. Anyone familiar with Drum n Bass music will know what Im talking about LOL

Cheers!

The problem with that list is that they probably don't know who your friend is anymore. It will be hard to sell them to them and complaints will go through the roof.

My friend runs one of the most recognisable Drum n Bass event brands in the UK. They definitely know who they are

If he's never contacted them then when he does he may have problems with them working out who he is and why he is contacting them. A lot of people will ignore or assume spam.

I mean if I hand out my email address at a rave I'm not sure I'm going to remember about it 10 minutes later or even the next day let alone months down the line.

I'm sure some will open emails, click and maybe even buy but I don't think it'll be as golden as you think.

Email addresses were added to the event ticket stubs, to receive updates and info

In response, we are aware we'll lose a few due to inactivity - but is it worth throwing this list away because of that fact?

    I don't think it is..

When you say that the addresses are mainly from event ticket stubs, are you saying that these people agreed to be put on a mailing list, or that he harvested them as he made sales and these people have no idea they're about to have their email addresses used for something?

Tickets have an explicit line saying:

"To receive News, Updates and Info on Future Events, please add your Email Address here!!"

      Hope that clarifies...

He could easily sell ad space to other events. Mail or email it sounds like?

But glowsticks.. I think you're onto something !!

If the people love boomptitty boomp events.. I'd promote that and give them what they want. He could do a newlsetter type thing and let people know about past event and mention the ones coming up that paid for advertising for example. Or just send out blasts about upcoming events.

He could offer a low priced membership site too.. get updates about events, listen to some music & such for a pound a month or something like... provide an app & let musicians put music out there (also for a price)

    Just a few thoughts..

Thankyou Victor. These ideas tie in nicely with with my initial thoughts.

Im not sure about the membership site angle, but renting out 'mailshots' to other promoters may be a good look.

      Appreciated mate

Sounds like a lot of potential..I guess you guys would know what they would want to buy the most. Maybe emailing them about some other brands parties, in the same scene, and sell "discounted' tickets online from which your friend receives commission?

Sounds to me like Victor's got the answer if they signed up for "news and updates". Send them updates on events your friend is promoting and charge other promoters a fee to include details of their events.

Some kind of low cost membership site or "club" could work, with exclusive music clips, an are where members can upload their music to share with the community, a forum, etc

Sell them more of what they have already bought: tickets to raves/parties/events.

Like what this guy said, sell them relevant products... If they have bought it once, they will more than likely buy it again.

I'd start by warming the list with event news, info and updates that they signed up for. I recommend adding a lot of value before trying to sell or promote anything.

Use a mailing service with analytics. After a few mailings you can scrub all the emails that yet to open. At that point you'll know what you have and will be ready to start working on mixing in promotions.
