OMG! not another GMAIL Tabs thread!!!

Just kidding, this is not a another GMAIL tabs thread, want to give you a tip. I personally don't like the tabs and disabled them 20 seconds after I seen them. Open rates have gone down, and will go down, but unlike the mass hysteria some people are spreading, email marketing is not "dead"

You just have to adapt a little, that's all. Remember this "*Please* Check Your Spam Filter or Junk Mail Folder "

Well how about adding a little something to your auto-responder thank you page, that goes something like this....

#gmail #omg #tabs #thread

This is a good idea. We have to eliminate the negative effect of the word Promotional for most people.

Any open rates that have gone down have likely happened because the change has only taken place. It's natural. There is always an adjustment period for things like this. Over the next few weeks/months things will go right back to normal as people learn how to use their new inbox.

I just can't believe all of the threads on this. It's really not as big a deal as people are making out. If it is such a big deal to anyone's business then it's a sign you need to re-evaluate your current business model if all it takes is a small gmail change to kill it.

Amongst the gmail user segment there's the very real possibility that open rates will go down in the long term.

It all depends on how the majority come to view the promotions tab, at this stage we don't know because it's too early, they could start to view it as just another spam folder or could forget to check it as regularly as their inbox etc

I was concerned about this of course, but I'm not at all now. Granted I have a good relationship with my list but I just sent an email out yesterday to all my lists (buyer lists and not-yet-buyer lists) yesterday morning and it has an almost identical open rate as the last email I sent out prior to the tabs.

I believe that this problem with Gmail is serious because it cuts our wings, but we are not going to die.

Google was very generous with us for more than ten years to let us believe that it would always be easy to get free traffic, but now that so many people have built their business and are making money online, Google decided to oblige everyone to pay for traffic.

This way Google receives through Adwords the amount we didn't have to pay in the past to get the same number of visitors by using free traffic generating methods. Now we have to share our profits with Google.

Google’s updates eliminated the SEO of the past and killed article marketing. Now Google is attacking email marketing and causing problems in this area.

I believe that in the future we will have restrictions at Youtube.

Google is taking from us all the free tools we had at our disposal for so many years because now it doesn’t need to be as generous as it used to be in the past, when it had to convince everyone that making money online was very easy.

Now that many of us have our online businesses for years, Google is making everything become always more difficult for all internet marketers to make us spend money on ads.

But, of course we are not going to let Google prevent us from working online. We have to react.

Same here, people tend to over exaggerate things, when it comes to changes. I took a week off the WF and came back to a crap load of Google tabs thread, I was thinking didn't we go through this last month?

    Well, here's the problem:

Your new subbies may never see your confirmation page.

Your "confirmation" email will most likely end up in the "promotions" folder. Will they see it?

    Who knows?

I've been rockin' the show with single opt-in. That's all I'm sayin'.

Subscribers are redirected to this page straight away, after opting in.
Given that you're using double opt in of course.

Just wondering what percentage of GMail users actually log into gmail to check their mail anyway. On my PCs I use LiveMail, and on my Macs I use Sparrow.

I can't remember the last time I logged into GMail, although I have some very busy email accounts there.

Thank you, Alex, for some common sense!

For years we've given instructions on sign-up pages to "check your spam folder" or to "white list" this email address.

So now you use a special instruction for those with gmail...tell them to check the folders. Better yet, tell them how to disable the folders.

If a change in a free email service destroys your business - you don't have much of a business to begin with.

Instead of just asking them to check the Promotions
tab, give them instructions on how to get your first
e-mail (and subsequent e-mails) automatically sent
            into their Primary Inbox.

They can drag and drop the message from the Promotions
tab over the Primary tab. Once this is done, GMail gives
them the option to apply this change to all of future e-mails
from you as the specific sender.

Some users will be reluctant to turn-off their Promotions tab
altogether. And if you get them to filter your messages into
the Primary inbox, you'll have less competition in there too :-)

            Dedicated to mutual success,

            Shaun

This is what I was wondering. I download to Mozilla Thunderbird and have seen no difference in the way my emails download. I only log-in when I'm looking for something; and I quickly flip through all 3 tabs to see what's there.

Is Thunderbird downloading emails from the Promotions tab into your Inbox on Thunderbird?

When they hit the submit button, it automatically redirects to the thank you page, so they will see it if we place it there

they could start to view it as just another spam folder or could forget to check it as regularly as their inbox
That is a possibility, we will just have to wait and see

Might be worth a few minutes to make a post on blogs, so when people Google how to disable tabs, they will show up on Google right away. We'll just have to wait and see, like Will mentioned, just have to give people time to get used to the tabs.

Teach the people how to abolish those tabs! That's what I did. I got rid of them immediately. To confusing and too many important things could be lost in the shuffle! I resent the fact that gmail put those tabs there without asking me anyway hmmmphhh

I read that messages with a clear unsubscribe link go to the Primary tab (automatically) in many cases.

This fact reminded me an old thread about putting the unsubscribe link in the beginning of every email message, what I personally am doing since I read a blog post with this suggestion at Aweber’s blog.

Perhaps now many Warriors will agree with this idea.

    Here is the old thread:

It's really a crap shoot I think. Google has a bad habbit of filtering almost anything to the spam box. I notice things I use like rides from airports, retail stores, even my kids subscriptions to games like ABC Mouse gets filtered to the spam box.

I am only guessing here, but if you don't open an email for a while, there maybe a good chance it will get filtered into the spam box, and people just don't see them.

What I have done is to create a short video on the opt-in thank you page showing how to set it up so all emails from my domain go to the "Primary" tab in Gmail. It's the best way to go, you definitely want to educate and motivate your readers on how to do this.
Great idea for sure, some people just don't want to be bothered with the settings, but if you show them how to easily do it, I'm sure alot of them will.

That's up to you... Make a free video report in "two parts".. In the videos make sure you mention the google tabs and tell them to add you to their contacts in the beginning of the video and at the end "briefly".. They will make sure to white-list you because if you give good value, they will want the second part (video) of the course..
