[Youtube Q] One Long Video Vs Several Short Videos - Which is better?

My question is about promoting physical products (specifically smartphones & tablets PC) on youtube. I'm making product review videos to drive traffic to my own e-commerce site and I'm not sure which option is better.

Is making one long video (7 to 10 minutes) covering all aspects of a product better?

Or, Making several short videos (1 minute) each covering ONE aspect of a product is better?

What is your experience regarding to the length of the video review on Youtube?

Thanks in advance for all feedback.

It's in what the product is
if the product a software like senuke....etc, the video may be 30 minutes or more and you will get many views.

Always try to send the viewers to your site to get there emails, you can offer extra information in your site or free report about the product.

IMO, it isn't "either/or", but rather "both". Give your viewers the choice.

Let me add to my previous comment...another reason you want both is to give you more videos. Each video is another marketing opportunity that can use slightly different keywords, appear for different search results and appear on another video's "suggested" video page.

If you have 7 parts, then you should have 8 videos. One for each part, and one for all parts.

Video length doesn't matter. Audience retention is more important.

Important is the content and SEO, not the video length.

It depends on the type of video. Slideshow presentations and tutorials get a MUCH better view retention for me.

I've done a lot of talking head videos and they generate email subscribers for me for sure, but the time watched isn't even close.

Also, my higher energy videos always perform well. It seems the more I am genuinely excited about the topic in the video, the more people feel that and stick around.

Just make sure you have your link with the full http:// (all lowercase) at the very top of your description

Thank you all for the quick and informative response.

My product is physical product, specifically smartphones & tablet PCs. I own my own e-commerce site, so the purpose the review videos are to send them over to my site.

What I already did was upload a series of 1 minute video to show people different part and performance of the chosen product. They were well-received.

Following what you all suggested, I will upload a couple longer videos to see how well my visitor respond.

One video. If you have your audience in your video already, dont having him hopping around multiple videos. Unleash your whole thing in one go without interruptions.

I'd say you make long videos since PC-Tablets and Smartphones is an interesting subject, if the product would be for example dog shampoo I'd go with the 1m vids.

It depends on the product, but I guess it would be better to make a long video covering all aspects and maybe add a list below, with each aspect and the time where it's covered. (minute:second to minute:second)

Shorter videos are proven to show higher retention rates.

By splitting up your videos to shorter ones you will not only get higher retention rates, but also coverage. 10 videos provide more exposure as opposed to 1.

Just make sure you're actually helping people with good content.

This. Someone else also mentioned the opportunity to rank for multiple keywords as well by breaking up your content. Google doesn't care if your video is short. They see YouTube videos and rank them.

Also, it provides a much better user experience. If you're studying the information, taking notes, etc it's certainly a LOT easier to go back through a couple of short videos to find what you're looking for than it is to have to take the time to skim through a longer video. That sucks!

      Shorter...definitely.

My YouTube video is only 34 seconds long. It's just to get people to my website.
I have to keep things short, simple and to the point. The attention span of the average person nowadays is getting shorter and shorter.

Coming from a member who has multiple YouTube channels with millions of views and tens of thousands of subscribers, I would say definitely keep your reviews around 5-7 minutes. When you start doing videos longer than that, the audience will get bored and start dropping off. Keep them entertained for that period of time and waiting for the next video to be uploaded. Do not bore them or they wont come back.

What really matters is quality and consistence. Once you start racking up your subscribers, they will be expecting you to upload at least once a week and have the quality of the other videos. Saying that, you WILL rack up subscribers.

Also, your channel name is very important. Keep it something simple and catchy. If the name you want is unavailable, make a Google page (not a Google+ account) and name it whatever you want, then link your YouTube to it and your channel name will be the same as your Google page.

Trust me, I've tried many different things with YouTube over the past 7 years. One of my accounts will hit 10M views this month and the account is just over a year old. The most important things to remember are quality and consistence. Watch review channels like "iCrackUriDevice", and see how his videos are laid out to help you. Also, if you need a subscriber, let me know. I personally love review channels.

    Hi,
Personally, I don't like videos too much over 5 minutes. If there is a lot of instruction involved, it's better to break it up. The only time I watch long videos is if it's an important training video or a webinar training.
    Good luck,

Most people have the attention span of a gnat, so unless your long videos are truly compelling, short videos get more views.

research shows that short compact videos get more views than long ones, but the content of the video is very important. Also you need to put a "Call To Action" message in your video to get viewers to your website. Not everyone looks at the description section of the youtube videos.

If you can present the 10 - 15 minutes long video and cover all the aspects of the product, while keeping your viewers stay will be better option.
It also depends on the way you write the script for the presentation.

People have increasingly short attention spans and you can catch more long-tail keywords with 7 videos than with one.

All else being equal, why not do both and split test?
