How Do You Handle Duplicate Payments?

Just had a question for those of you promoting clickbank products.. I was going through the daily sales records for today and noticed that a customer bought the same product twice one minute apart.

Now I understand there is an e-mail address available in clickbank but are we supposed to notify the customer directly, or shoot an e-mail to clickbank instead?

I wouldn't feel right if it somehow slipped by the person that ended up getting charged twice as it wouldn't be a legitimate sale in my eyes and they shouldn't have to unknowingly pay twice.

Anyone had this problem and know the best way to handle it?

    Tyler,

If the order/receipt number is different, I issue an immediate refund for the second purchase. I've seen only two cases where the same order resulted in two notifications, which was a problem on my server. I've seen a lot more where it was actually two separate orders.

I've even spotted people who ordered a product as much as a year earlier, and paid for it a second time. When I see that, they get a refund. Usually with a note saying something like, "You don't need to pay a second time. You bought this last year. The second order does [ahem] suggest that you didn't use it the first time... "

Man, I've been that stupid before. I bought rights to a product...months later I saw it again, and liked it so much I bought it a second time.

'Scammed by Self' indeed. Is there a 12 step program for that?

Contact the customer first so there is zero confusion, then process one of them for a refund.

If you don't do it that way, the potential for FUBAR is high to very high.
