Are You Skilled at Forum Marketing?

I'm actually very bad at forum marketing.

Forum marketing is best when you create awesome threads that teach, inspire, and that people love and thank you for.

Me? I'm more of a one on one type of dude.

I get bored and actually enjoy answering questions as best I can.

PS: Of course I use signatures. I think you can generate some real traffic in your signatures, no doubt.

But there's a difference between having a signature and using it wisely, or just having one for the hell of it.

Me? I'm in the "for the hell of it" crowd.

  Google will believe what its algorithms tell it to believe. If your backlinks are from relevant sites, you have nothing to worry about. It has always been this way, it's this way now, and unless Matt Cutts and all his colleagues are persistently lying about it, for reasons best known to themselves, in every possible medium and at every possible opportunity, it will be that way at least for the foreseeable future. There isn't an issue here.

  If you are doing forum marketing properly, why would you be worried about the big G, when you can do very nicely without them.
  It is much easier and often more productive to help people with their problems than farting about trying game search engines, when all of your hard work can be wasted at the tweak of an algo. "just saying"! :p

I have read in several places that if you get to many backlinks from Google will penalise you. I am aiming to use Google as 'bonus revenue' but it would still be nice to have.

I am planning to write great content for a number of subjects. For example if your site is about famous non-fiction authors you could be posting on forums which are completely unrelated to one another.

And that's true. But only of backlinks not on context-relevant sites, such as multiple article-directory/ non-relevant blog-network links that look as if they could be automated/bought/software-made.

So: forum profile backlinks (by the thousand, made with software): very high risk for a major SEO penalty. Forum posting/sig-file backlinks in forums relevant to the subject/niche of your site: no problem at all, and good backlinks.

But each related to content on the pages of your site to which you link, presumably? Not a problem.

SEO, like almost everything else that's income-determining in internet marketing, is all about quality and relevance. These are not things for which Google will penalize you. If you can get targeted (i.e. relevant) traffic from a backlink that you make/post yourself, you don't need to worry what Google will think about it.

Forum Marketing isn't exactly the bulk of my income, but I do get a nice sale or two every couple of days thanks to forums.

Think of it as a nice supplement to your income. Just post meaningful content, interact and make friends, and most importantly, have fun when you post

Successful forum marketing is about being opportunistic...

You have to contribute to the community when ever you can, and then every once in a while you'll stumble onto a thread that your signature solves the problem...

Just posting trash to get eyes on your sig won't work, if you post to help people, every once in a while the perfect question will come along...

Forum marketing works quite well. Just concentrate on providing great answers to questions and adding value. People will start clicking on your links occasionally.

As people have mentioned earlier in this thread, forums are a great way to drive traffic if you provide massive value and help people in the community.

To give you a great example of someone who has mastered forum marketing, read this quote by Kim Davis...

With forums, you can instantly put your content in front of hundreds of people who are currently browsing that forum.

No where else online can you tap into that much traffic goodness so quickly

Just to give you an example…

My dad is generating 14,000+ visitors per month in a tiny, weird little niche.

I am very skilled at forum marketing, I managed to get 40+ opt-ins to my mailing list in less than 24 hours. The biggest key is to pick a forum that is related to your niche and build up a large ego before even attempting to market.

This in a nutshell. For forum marketing to work, you must focus on helping people and giving value. Once you are able to do that and offer value and become an auhority in your niche, people will begin to click on your signature links sometimes just out of curiosity.

Forum marketing works, if you know how to do it right and correctly.

I think I'm okay at forum marketing, I try my best! I just answer questions as best as I can and occassionally create a thread if I have something of use to say!

As a beginner I don't have yet a result doing Forum Marketing. But as what I have read this thread I've got some idea that would enhance myself to become skilled at Forum Marketing. I agree that in forum marketing it is effective once you've share post that relevant and give help to the reader about the topic. You should know more a lot of things to share in the forum.

To tell the truth, I really don't know am I good at forum marketing.
I try to give some good advice, words of encouragement, say what I like and don't like, what works and what doesn't, and hope that someone finds it helpful enough to implement it.
Just be open, honest, and don't worry about Google, haters, naysayers, and try to have fun as much as possible!

Drop links in posts here and you're likely to get banned if you do it over and over. Before getting banned, a mod will just delete them.

Post a bunch of rubbish posts just for signature exposure and the same thing will happen.

Join in the conversations with relevant, useful posts and no links in posts and you'll build up a reputation as someone who is helpful and not just a sig spammer.

When you're engaging in forum marketing it's important to engage in the conversations already taking place. But it's also good to start your own discussion threads and offer up your own knowledge to further help the members and to establish authority and credibility.

As far as Google is concerned. I wouldn't sweat it. It's best to focus on getting traffic by directly engaging with your audience in forums and other venues rather than trying to get traffic from Google.
