what is the use of redirect plugin?

Hi is anyone using redirection plugin for wordpress?Why is it used.And if possible can anyone tell me how to use it with clickbank products,I mean how to configure and what codes are used?I am using thesis 2.1

    One reason you might use a redirect plugin is to direct visitors from an old page on your site to a new version of the same page i.e. when the page has permanently moved, for example, as might happen when you update your site from one CMS to another.

    Yea, like Will said, you might use a redirect plugin to fix old or broken links.

    For example, if you change your permalink structure from
    domain.com/mycategory/some-post-title
    to
    domain.com/someothercategory/some-post-title
    and your previously permalinked links were referenced by external sources, your website will suddenly throw up a whole bunch of 404 errors (page not found). To avoid this you use a redirect plugin to give 301 redirections (permanent redirect) and redirect the visitor to your new links.

    I suspect however you are asking about link masking or cloaking (since you mention Clickbank). Link masking or cloaking helps you clean up affiliate links (especially useful when you link to them from your blog).

    So, if you have an affiliate link that looks like this: example.hop.clickbank.net/?tid=notreal, instead of linking to it directly, a WordPress link cloaking/masking plugin will help you make this link look like: domain.com/go/notreal and if a visitor clicks the link, they will be redirect to your real affiliate link.

    You can use "Pretty Link Lite" or "Seo Ultimate" plugins for this purpose.

      Thanks Will and John...and yes I am thinking of cloacking my links with redirections.Does it by any means has positive SEO benifit as google may not like affiliate links in my site.
