I've been making blogs and websites since 2003 and sold countless of these websites (stable earning websites) through Flippa (then the sitepoint marketplace).. I've been doing this activity most of my online time from 2003 and peaked on 2007-2008 where I earned beyond my imagination... I created 2 authority sites for Amazon and Clickbank last 2009 and maintained it until 2011. Both sites were earning decent amount when I stopped updating and SEOing them..

I started to offer this writing service on March 2011. During the first 2 months, the result was promising. I earned double that year. 2012 was a solid year for my service and my online earning had peaked. I say I was earning $5,000 to $7,000 a month in writing service alone. That figure is big enough if you are living in my country where the average salary of a manager in McDonalds is lower than $500/month.

The beginning of 2013 was promising but came February, the sales have dramatically declined. Sales dropped by more than 80% at the time of this writing. I analyzed what happened and as expected, the competition is the main reason why sales has dropped.

Seeing February's result, I predicted the trend. I was alarmed so I had to think what to do. I logged-in to my namecheap account and checked my domains lists. I decided to rehabilitate one of my authority sites dedicated to Amazon. By March, the site went online again. I posted more than 500 products in March alone, spending around 6 hours daily working on that site alone. Now, the site has more than 3500 products listed and each has short unique description of 300 words created by my writers. Since the domain was old and parked somewhere, I was able to rank it easily.

The site sells home products but almost 30% of sales are from unrelated products.

Number of Sales and Commission
April / 42 items / $97
May / 237 items / $758.4
June / 864 items / $2,548
July / 1356 items / $4,203

I received my first check last month with the amount of $128.55

What I am trying to elaborate here is that,if I did not took action and still relied on my dying writing service, I don't know what happened to me now. Businesses have ups and downs and we must always find options. I actually blamed myself on abandoning these sites before because I thought my income from selling my writing service will be a long-term business but I was wrong. Competitors are catching up fast and besides, any business that involves selling services always could be in real danger anytime of the day.

Although I am still offering this writing service, my focus is now shifted to Amazon - where I see giant potential.

Act fast if you notice some problem and don't put all your eggs in one basket..... I'm 100% sure that some warriors who are selling services here experiences the same......

PS: Please don't PM and ask me about my website.

Adie, these amounts shown below are your commissions, aren't they?
Does it mean you only withdrew $128.55?
Or I think I'm lost here.

It started on February. I saw it coming long ago but I did not expect to be that fast.. I had a solid 2012 so I didn't really expected that the decline was that fast... But as I said, I'm not worried anymore..

Adie, you're a successful Amazon affiliate. Did you do any backlinking on your Amazon site? Or you just let it do its own thing by simply posting product descriptions on that site itself?

I do backlinking through blog comments, social bookmarks, and related forum posts. I also do a lot of on page optimization....

Thats good to hear. Regarding seo for your amazon site, how hard is it to rank your product pages high? What kind of backlinks do you build (I'm not askin specifics here, just general idea) if you use automated software, or do manual link building. Thanks!

I am not seoing the actual products as I'm not posting review articles... See this thread to better understand what I am doing to promote Amazon products.
