I wanted to get some input on how I could use the knowledge of affiliate marketing and apply it to car sales. I want to generate more leads and business for myself as I have been in car sales for about 6 months and it can get frustrating. I have been trying to come up with ideas for getting more leads and one of the ideas I have come with is to make my own website that promotes myself. Has anyone had any experience with something like that? Anyone else on here into car sales?

  • Ricky,

Having a website would be a good first start. I suppose incorporating prinicples of affiliate marketing could potentially work however you would be swimming upstream here. Affiliate networks typically have well established systems where people get paid and there is a lot of incentive to promote products online. A lot of transactions take place electronically and if you don’t have that kind of infrastructure in place, people may not trust that you will pay them if they refer someone to your site and you eventually sell to them.

Also, products sold through affiliate marketing typically have a short sales cycle that happens online. Conversely, a car sale is a bit longer and generally takes place in person.

I have seen a lot of sales people (car sales included) have success with social media and particularly Facebook. You could offer some kind of incentive for sharing your content or pushing people toward your website.

I think the best thing you can do is start building an email list. There are a variety of ways you can do that but some of the easiest and fastest are to either offer content that people want or give something away. Both of these would entail people giving up their contact information in order to get whatever it is you are offering. For instance maybe you get your employer to give you coupons for discounted or free oil changes and then offer them on a fangated facebook application where visitors would have to enter a name and email in order to download the coupon. Once you have a decent size list you can market to them. You could also followup with those people with other methods.

Basically you have to offer something that people want in order to get a lead. That can either be something tangible or something that is content.

    Hope that helps,

    Shawn

I have not done cars but a product of a similar nature......

If you want to succeed in this with IM...
you need to use the google adwords specifically for your area and activate mobile text ads on it as well.... does great for me....

Second, if you are based in the US.. use ebay classifieds and use Ebay Partnet Network to generate some sales...

    Here is what you do:

Start a blog and create a Facebook Fan Page and YouTube account.

Give out daily tips on buying cars. You can give tips on how to save money, things dealers do not normally share with buyers, etc.

You want to make sure that all your post are written for your local area. Use post titles like "What Chicago Dealers Don't Tell You".

Give great advise. Share these post on your Facebook Fan Page, Personal Facebook Page and every now and then make a video and put it on YouTube. The video should also appear on your blog and Facebook Fan Page.

The key here is to give people what they want to know. You being a dealer should have an inside scoop on what customers are looking for(Play off their needs).

If you sell used cars target people who buy used cars. If you sell BMW's target people who buy BMW's. Give the advise the people in the market you sell cars for need.

Make sure you have all your contact information on your blog and social media accounts.

You should also take the time to learn about SEO and types of ads you can buy on Facebook, YouTube, Google, etc. to target your local area. You can learn a lot about those things here on the forum. There may be some good courses in the WSO section as well.

Good luck and I hope this helped you.

I agree 100% with what Mark. D is saying.

But I would add the addition of an opt in form under your videos (if you decide to take that route). Again create quality information/ content for your vids. Try your your best to make them specific in hopes of attracting the more targeted prospects.

Creating an incentive for potential opt ins would greatly improve your opt in rate. You could create a small information guide on what to look out for or what questions to ask for the first time buyer. Provide it for free in return for their email address.

I would take the advice from above and scan the WSO section for Video SEO and the other types of SEO. Spend some time on jazzing up your channel, perhaps add in an intro to help with branding, you can outsource some excellent ones for cheap.

The plan is you should eventually build up a list of prospects within your area that you can notify within minutes on up coming events or just current deals. Which you could also do on a Fb fan page....

Also most of the preferred auto responding services such as aweber come with a cost.

Im not neglecting Facebook or other methods mentioned , I believe you should give them all a go but focus on one route at a time.

Not meaning to step on anyone's toes here, just wanted to add to the already great advice.

      keep us updated,
