    Your account was obviously dormant:

    DORMANT ACCOUNTS

Accounts with a positive balance but no earnings for an extended period of time are considered dormant. Dormant accounts are subject to a charge of $1 per pay period after 90 days of no earnings, $5 per pay period after 180 days of no earnings, and $50 per pay period after 365 days of no earnings.

I opened an account several years ago, but have never earned anything, about to start though through my own website..

Dormant Account policy, a scary thought, what if I closed my account and opened as a new member with a different email address and Username..?

yes will be accepted but the major point here is earning taking place on the account. I got an account with $20 plus there as well that i keep seeing $1 deduction as well. However making money in clickbank takes a special know how tho

This is actually my second account after I lost my email address on the first account I had before. I am starting to rehabilitate my CB authority site that has been dormant for more than a year as well when I noticed this thing. Another additional income for Clickbank...

You can have as many Clickbank accounts as you like.

    I have about 4.

You can also have a Clickbank master account which allows you to link all of your different Clickbank accounts together and access all your stats in the one place.

As for the dormant charges, yes, they suck. I think they are a bit unreasonable since it surely does not cost them that same money to keep your dormant account alive. They are basically just using a really lame excuse to take money you have rightfully earnt for yourself.

    But that's Clickbank for ya.

They will start to take your money if you don't use the account. First they start taking a few (If I remember correctly $1) then it keeps increasing until it reaches $50 and perhaps even more. I'm not sure.

We all know it cost CB a lot of money to let your money sit in their bank account drawing interest.

    What a racket, lol.

      It's easily avoidable.

The "dormant account charges" don't start until you haven't had a sale for 90 days, and then they're only $1 every two weeks (at first).

All you need to do is buy a $3/$4 product through your own hoplink (or ask a friend/relative to do that), and that resets the clock and gives you another 90 days.

I agree that these are iniquitous charges, though. I can't help wondering whether the damage they've done to ClickBank's reputation, over the years, just from people understandably complaining about them in forums, has actually cost them a lot more than the money they've saved. My guess is that until ClickBank changes that, people will continue to complain about it in public.

This is a perfect suggestion. When my account was dormant, I made around 6 purchases and I think it could have saved my earnings if did all those buying through my hoplink.

It is a simple solution. The reality is though you shouldn't have to buy more products just to keep money you have already earnt that is rightfully yours.

The banks here in Australia got slammed a few years ago for doing the same thing. They were charging people $30 for overlimit fees and there was an investigation into it and they found out the actual cost to the bank for processing those types of things was not even a few dollars. A class action started and many people got years worth of fees back from the banks -- myself included.

Maybe that's what we need to do. :-) They only do it because everyone lets them.

I agree, but it's a major work-up, and for something with a relatively easy "fix" there's no great incentive for anyone to do it. To my own personal knowledge, ClickBank has had letters from lawyers on both sides of the Atlantic expressing the view that this practice is illegal. In the UK it comes under the "Unfair Contracts Terms Acts" (I've been told), and I can't remember what the equivalent is called in the US.

When it's discussed in forums, some people always say "Well, those are the Terms Of Service" and that people can have any contract clauses they want, but the reality is that it's not quite so simple, I believe, in law. There are limits on "freedom of contract", especially in situations in which the parties are clearly contracting on a clearly very unequal footing, and it would be interesting to see a court's opinion/ruling on this.

The first company I remember doing the dormant account think, or a variant of it, was overture/goto p, an early ppc search engine.

They did it because people deposited funds for advertising clicks, but if they onl bid on a few keywords left money lying in their accounts forever. I seem to remember it started as a minimum monthly account fee - even if you only paid for one 1 cent click, the charged a minimum amount for the month.

It was presumably a good way to clear up truly dormant accounts (what if a guy deposits funds an dies, they'd end up holding money forever), and profitable besides.

Since then I've seen more and more practices of this sort from more and more Internet companies.

6 weeks in cb is also a surprisingly short window. 6 months would be more appropriate IMHO.

Or you could just put your payment threshold to $10.
