Default Please Refund- This excuse blew my mind and I think it will yours too!

Hey warriors,

How is it going?

I just got up and checked my email for one of my niche products and I came across an email with the subject: refund

So when I opened the email, it goes like this:

----------------------
hello i purchased your product using the wrong credit card so i will be happy if you could grant me a refund. here are the transaction details.

.......

-------------------------

Now what do you think of that? It is a downloadable book!

This really blew my mind. I would rather the person had emailed me and ask me for a free copy for whatever reason that try such a gimmick.

anyways hope everyone has a wonderful day today.

How about a response like this:
Sure, just as soon as you complete your purchase on the new credit card, I will get the refund to you promptly.

That's a cool answer but it would contradict my guarantee on my sales page.

"I will refund no questions asked" lol

Okay, I'm a naive newbie, but there is a possibility that this person honestly made a mistake. Depending on how their credit cards are being paid off it could be a problem for them...

dvduval - I am on the same lines as you. Juts email back and tell them that and then see what happens. If they use another reason then the credit card isn't the issue!

The audacity of it all - most likely a serial refunder. Ask the customer to send you payment using the right credit card and then you will refund the payment made using the wrong credit card ( good luck with that ).

Congratulations! That's a new one to me too. It just further proves there's no end of excuses people can find to justify taking advantage.

But cheer up. That kind of person, even if they were to read your book a couple hundred times, they're still not capable of "getting" whatever knowledge you've placed in it. They're walking the loser's path, so no matter what they take, it won't stick. They literally can't steal from you because even though they take it, they'll never have it, never be able to use it, and never, ever get ahead.

They're stuck being a sad little loser who is convinced deep down inside that they have to cheat just to try and keep even with everybody else.

Pretty pitiful stuff.

Cheers from warm and smiling Thailand,
Charles

I did just that. SO now I am waiting for his response.

Note: I have no problem refunding but it is just I have never heard of this type of reason. It could possibly be true so will just wait and see what happens.

That's why its great dealing in membership sites. No more serial refunders! They get a refund, their membership account is cancelled - they miss out.

I was sick of selling ebooks and getting these pain in the backside refunders. Some excuses did make me laugh though, such as this one:

"dear sir, my brother logged onto my paypal account and bought your book, however having read it, I find its not for me, so please refund me all my money or I will report you to the authorities"

Sometimes, I just had to laugh.

Best one I heard was:

"My toddler spilt coffee all over my computer, so now I can't access your ebook. So please refund my payment".

I wonder how they managed to send the email? Perhaps they must have used another computer...

Or maybe the coffee only affected the ebook.

It's likely that they were at their limit on the card, and realized they'd made an error in using that card. In their panic, they requested a refund right away... or something

It's also possible they used a personal card for a business purchase or vice versa. I've done that and it's frustrating..

Here's a suggestion - report your
brother to the authorities for fraud
and let me know how it turns out.

Or, if you prefer, I'll be happy to
report him -thank you for bringing
this to my attention.

I like dvduval's answer. But a credit card shouldn't be an issue anyway.

Better to just refund. Believe me, You don't want to start getting chargeback problems. That idiot would never be a customer anyway, at least if he couldn't get away with this crap.

I agree w/ Tyrus - I hate bogus refunders, but it's best just to give the refund. Chargebacks are more expensive.

Just issue the credit card refund. Then make a note of the client's name and address. If they don't purchase with the other card, blacklist them so they can't buy again! Membership sites are a much better way to go, though. Nothing to refund. How can there be?

A bit of a tangent...

I have had a few requests for refunds throgh my membership site. No problem. I issue them for 1 payment period (monthly or yearly).

However, a some of these people said they had some serious money problems. In those cases, I give them one to three free months, respond with an offer to help in any way I can, and then follow up if they request any assistance.

And...

I don't do this in the hopes of winning a customer for life, I do it because I know where I came from. Call it, "Do unto others...", or whatever, it's the right thing to do.

Is it possible they are just making up a sob story to get a refund? Maybe. It doesn't matter to me either way.

In the case of the OP, I don't know what the product or service is, but if there is a true financial need, then an offer to help could be just the thing.

All the best,
Michael

If you have a no questions asked money back guarantee, I wonder why this person even bothered to provide a reason? Seems like for a "serial refunder" it would be easier just to have a standard template - "Per your guarantee, please refund."

Maybe the need to create a story shows they feel guilty?

I know it's annoying, but that's my point - someone with honestly no remorse wouldn't care! IMO, the fact that a person needs to make up some excuse to make the process more palatable means they know deep down it's wrong.

I wish to respectfully disagree, Matthew.

I would have NO problem with someone using that phrase to get a refund. No one has to give me a story, or reason for requesting a refund. But as to whether or not that phrase is acceptable? We can just call it a matter of preference.

However, there is one thing I would like...

For people to tell me what they didn't like. Every refund request I have received lauds my service, and says how great it is, but that doesn't help improve anything.

All the best,
Michael

hehe thats agood one. Its one of 2 things. They have either genuinely made a mistake or they are trying to get a free ebook out of it. I would also reply back saying that they will be refunded once they have made payment with their other credit card.

Hello,

I put up the wrong refund policy when I created the sales page so I will be happy if you could disregard the part on the sales page that mentions refunds.

Here is the real refund policy:

"No Refunds."

Thanks!

Just kidding.

As mentioned previously: Since you have a liberal policy, just refund the customer rather than taking your chances on getting a chargeback.

Hello,

If I was in place of you, I should have refunded him...This created a very good image

Of course, there are some people who first purchases then just simply ask for a refund..

I really have no problem refunding the guy and I am sure my product will help him.

But is the reason that really caused me to share this post. lol

Of course, there are some people who first purchases then just simply ask for a refund..

Hey Warriors,

Deonta Walker here, I most say that i truly love this family. I Love the fact that i can always come to the Forum and instently get a smile on my face just for being here. I was laughing my headoff because of some of the storys people tell when it comes to getting a refund.

But I must say that you guys are fantastic, and I am deeply in love with all of you. Everything that has been shared are given are spoken here, has truly helped me in becoming a successful Warrior.

Today, I was feeling a little down and ran into this thread, and started felling better right away because, some of the things that you guys said.

You guys are fantastic and I love being a part of this Family

Thanks Warriors

Deonta Walker

P.S Yesacpow, I understand how you feel, but, I agree with michael oksa. When it comes to it, just show that you care and understand the problem and refund them. If they are honest then you will see them again,if not at least you showed them you are a person who truly understands and cares. This alone will draw a customer for life because, you are showing them that you are different from other marketers and that you truly want them to succeced.

I accidently bought groceries on a client's expense card once.

Same bank, same looking card.... whoopsie

That required a "refund".

This could be a legit reason. I have on occasion, used the wrong card to get stuff. Its quite the hassle to write in an exception in your accounts or use petty cash to cover for it.

This is cos I use one card strictly for IM purchases, another for personal stuff, and another for business expenses (non IM)

Hey...this was way to funny for Friday.

People sometimes blow my mind with excuses.

To bad nobody makes a good "ebook switcher" software so that when this guy requests his refund you can just switch the content of the ebook for some really lame, bad advice.

Cheers,
Jack Duncan

Refund it.

If they are honest they will buy again.

If they are not honest there is nothing you can do about it anyway because you are bound by the terms of your guarantee.

might want to rethink that no questions asked guarantee. A guarantee is fine but your not leaving yourself any wiggle room for jokers like this.

The first thing to do is offer support and try to solve the situation. 9/10 times it is someone looking to just scam you (if they are using a similar story). Just do what the second response on this thread was. Ask them to reorder with the right credit card.

Well, it could be changed from this point forward, but the current request would fall under the "no questions asked" policy.

As marketers, many of do have such a policy, and we know there are "jokers" out there, but they are considered a cost of doing business. In other words the number of sales brought in by a solid guarntee offsets the few serial refunders out there.

Having a strong guarantee is one way of showing that we stand behind our products.

All the best,
Michael

I know what my response would be.

I have never thought of doing a chargeback, ever. BUT, if I were the customer in this case, I would consider it.

You offer the refund. Give it.

If someone hinted that I should pay twice before getting refund once, well...

Come on!

Just sayin'

However, there is one thing I would like...

For people to tell me what they didn't like. Every refund request I have received lauds my service, and says how great it is, but that doesn't help improve anything.

No, I am not saying I want a story... I am just saying
that seeing that phrase in an email bugs the hell out of me.

I don't require a story, I am meaning that the ones that
send an email with that line are always the ones that don't
want any more help, they don't want advice... they just
want a refund.

There is software out there that will let you lock the ebook after the sale . I don't know exactly how it works but if I was selling info products I would investigate further
