would like your guys opinon on this.

Let's say I have a blog in the MMO niche and want to start a site solely dedicated to the topic of online traffic.

Would it be better to start a traffic blog, or to add a traffic category to my preexisting blog.

any insight would be helpful. thanks.

If it fits on your site, go for it.

If you're going to build a sales page or squeeze page for the content... I'd say get a new domain.

If you already have good traffic and a decent following then I would just add to the existing site.

You will be giving more value to your readers and that is what they really want.

My concern is monetizing I'm wondering if a site that is solely targeted to traffic would rank better and offer better advertising opportunities since its more specific.

      Jreed,

I think your decision should be based upon your new site (the traffic topic) and what you plan to do with it.

If, for example, it fits within your old blog's purpose and scope (meaning it's very relevant to the MMO context on your current site) then I would add it to what you're already doing.

This is especially true if you're also going to focus on other topics within MMO in the future (as examples, SEO, copywriting, affiliate sales, outsourcing, etc). Traffic, like these other examples, are all relevant to making money online.

On the other hand, if your new traffic blog never refers to making money or anything else you've blogged about in your MMO blog, then it would be best to start something new from scratch.

I'm saying, if the two subjects are relevant and feed off each other then they can coexist nicely in one blog. If your blog content, products, purposes don't blend well and don't mesh, then keep them on separate web sites.

I have always found that fewer sites take less work and are more apt to get your best and most persistent effort.

      Good luck to you,

      Steve

my take on this is that it’s better to just a category to your current one. Since you already have traffic, might as well stick to the site. You won’t only save time and money but you’ll also give more value to your followers. This applies if what you’ll add is still within the making money online context.

I’m not really sure what your plan if the new traffic blog will talk about something else—not related to MMO, then start fresh. Get another domain then.

I think if the two subjects are related, go with a category

MMO doesn't go with online traffic tips though. Your readers are coming to read about MMO so I think you should keep them separate. Don't quote me on this but Google probably won't like seeing your mesh MMO topics with online traffic tips.

In my opinion both can work, however I would stick with adding more content to existing website - it will give more authority to your website.
