I have a problem, I usually end up giving out all my tips, tricks, tested methods etc. for free. It's just that I run out of other related things to write about and suddenly it's out there, I sent it to one of my lists or put it on one of my blogs. Am I too nice(stupid, take a pick) for this industry? Or am I simply going about it the wrong way, the correct approach would be something along the lines of; When I run out of material, research. Right? Just checking.

If you feel you are giving away all your tips for free, why not recommend good and useful products that goes along with your tip? This should help you earn money. I know people who earn money only by giving away free information.

I know where you are coming from. However over the years I have learned to give enough away that inspires readers to come back, but not too much that I'll have nothing to sell them further down the line.

You know something, people are information seekers, after all we live in the age of information, no matter what you've given away for free, as long as it wasn't in ebooks, you can always create a product from it.

      Remember that Always.

You HAVE to get paid for your info! Its important to get compensated for your knowledge or everyone else will!

Its hard but you must CHARGE what you are WORTH!

This is a definitely a balancing act that I've had some trouble dealing with in the past. I'm one of the biggest advocates of over-the-top customer support you'll probably ever find. To the extent that it put my first business venture at risk. Especially in the web services industry, you've got to be particularly cautious of the so-called "scope creep". A fairly straightforward web design job could turn into something much bigger if you allow the client/customer to carry on with your great ideas and plans, but completely omit the fact that you're going to have to charge extra for these services.

In much the same way, the information seekers online will go where the value is, and that line isn't always drawn with the same letters that make up the word F-R-E-E. It's going to be up to you to define the value you're willing to give up front, the total value you can offer your readers/customers, and whether that value is congruent with the amount you're currently charging (seemingly, free). My opinion is this...if there is true value in your business dealings, then you shouldn't be overly concerned with what it is you're giving away for free.

    Good luck in your ventures!

Here's an idea - when giving away tips, tell them "what to do" not necessarily "how to do it" - The "how to do it" comes when they pay. When you give away lists of tips it seem as if you're giving alot away. And (truth be told) you're helping them understand what you're talking about conceptually.

    Hope that made sense ;-)

If you have articles, even if they are already published or old auto responder messages, you can always convert them to audio. Here is a really affordable voice over artist that could do that for you if you don't like doing voice overs. You could also turn those articles and auto responder messages into videos. Just add some graphics from relevant sites like a screenshot of the website you are talking about... and mix that up with text slides to get your idea across. Members who may have ignored ebook downloads may be more interested in the audio or video.

Here is the link to the voice over artist:

I've noticed that most of the guys making a killing via 'moving the free line' are not selling lower priced products in the first place. Pagan, kern, walker, etc - none of these guys seem to sell low priced products (ie, the stuff they give away for free) so they have nothing to lose by giving it away.

If you have a fully developed sales funnel, I can see the value in simply giving away what others would be selling as their lower priced front-end.

However, if all you have is that front-end product, I think you may have some problems if you give everything away for free. I think this scenerio takes a lot more thought to get right.

If you are low on content, can't think of what to research or anything like that, then your best bet is to outsource your research. Find an article writer to do some research on a topic you are curious about. You may be suprised by the results you receive.

They may have 80% of what you have already given away or emailed subscribers about, but that 20% of info they provide that wasn't already there can spawn whole other ideas for products.

Now if you are giving a lot of stuff away for free, then you definitely need to be thinking of affiliate products that you can include in those giveways to monetize that stuff. Otherwise you are giving your whole business away and will never see a single dollar for your efforts.

I'm not saying bombard people with affiliate links to the brim in your ebooks, but a well placed recommendation in an ebook can go a long way, especially if you have built up trust in your subscribers.

People normally don't give a second thought about clicking an affiliate link if they trust the person they got that link from.

You can even add this to the videos I was talking about earlier. You could use the redirect option at the end of the video to send them directly to a site you referenced in the video. If the video is high quality then they will be more inclined to at least take a look at the sales letter for the product.

Where this really benefits you is if the video is good, then they will likely let their friends know about it thus increasing your opportunities beyond the subscriber total on your list.

If you're giving away good advice for free then you will develop a loyal following. You can still sell the info in a product even though you've given it away for free. Let's say I go to your blog and I read a post that is just great, really phenomenal info. I see that you have a product that is an aggregate of all your wisdom with you expounding on it. I'll pay for that product rather than search through your blog for the same info and hope I reach the same conclusions that I'd get from your product. People like organized information. Like others said previously, you can also convert it to audio. You can also make it a video product or a live seminar.

People put a value on aggregated information. Think about it, whatever knowledge people are selling, they weren't born with it. They learned it some how. When people look at a product, they don't think "Instead of buying it, I'll go learn what the author knows the hard way." People think, "Yay! He's already put all this info together so I don't have to! Where's the credit card..."

I think you should keep doing what you're doing and build a loyal fan base. If your free info is really great, they are going to hop at the chance to buy a product from you. Besides, you'll always be able to go into greater detail in your product. It's easier for people to learn and easier for you to deliver good information if it's all flowing out at once in a video or audio or ebook that has no size limitation. It's better for people to learn that way because you're guiding them from point A to point B and showing them the reasoning behind it. A tip just tells you what to do; people are very unlikely to follow even the best tips until you teach them the reasoning behind it. For example, someone tells you to build backlinks to improve your site's ranking. That is sound advice and to a newbie who is hearing it for the first time, a great tip. However, you're unlikely to do it until someone explains why it's good for your site and how it can build a frenzy of traffic for your site.

Bottom line is, there is very little truly unique info out there. It is all simply repackaged and aggregated in a different manner and branded differently. It's how you aggregate and brand the info you sell that's important.

(Sorry for the tangent and long post, I just get going and can't stop. Hopefully it made sense.)
