Building an e-mail list

I had an amazing response to my last question, so I'm going to ask another question of everyone here.

On the advice of some members, I have incorporated affiliate marketing into my website which is going well. I am now trying to setup an emailing list, but that is proving more difficult.

I've tried subscribe2 with wordpress but I'm not liking it so far. What does everyone use here and any advice on how to create a compelling widget/banner and the program to use with it?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    What auto-responder are you using?

I use Aweber and you can design an optin form that can go in your widgets area. There's also MailChimp which is free, but I feel that Aweber is worth the price.

Try Smart Modal. It's free and you can customize it. You can set it up to work with Aweber, GetResponse, etc... The only problem is that you need technical skills to do it, although you could definitely hire someone to install it for you.

I've tried aweber, getresponse and mailchimp, but personally (just a personal preference), I really like Aweber. There's also an option to design an opt-in form. I think the squeeze copy plays a larger part in compelling the prospect.

Since you're using WordPress, I DEFINITELY suggest a plugin called Wysija in combination with Magic Action Box. It lets you do it all for free, and if you use it with a Gmail account, send rates are very good.

I use aweber, you have to pay for it but it's well worth the money! Then you can just create your opt in box and insert it on the page using HTML. It's really simple.

Thanks for all the replies. I'm going to try some of these out, though aweber is looking really good right now.
