Any Amazon gurus here?

I think i found a decent product keyword, and am thinking about making an amazon website for it. Im going to post the stats of the keyword now.

When i put it in quotes and search google there are only 81,000 results or it.

The product costs between $15 and $45 and bundles of the product reach upwards of $150. Its not a poor mans product btw.

Do you think it would be worth going into? i have never built an amazon site before but i think this is a nice keyword.

Also will answer qustions in PM if you need the specific keyword

I'm not an Amazon guru by any means, but if I were planning to make that site I'd want to look at the competition - of those 81,000 results, what are the first 10 or so like? Are they big, established sites with good page rank and lots of incoming links? Do they have unique content etc?

If so, then I'd think they'd be harder to outrank than if they were small sites on free hosts with duplicate content scraped directly from Amazon (or elsewhere). If the majority of links on the first page of results fall into the latter category (or are are Amazon itself) I'd think you could probably make it work if you write some good, unique content. You might even be in with a chance if the first page of results are big guns, but I would think it would be harder to pull off.

There are no sites made solely for te products. Just the producsts on amazon, tesco, homebase, argos, etc.

If i made the site with an EMD and wrote 10 unique articles about them would it be a good idea with this new information?

That could be a very profitable keyword but bear in mind, the PR of those competition you mentioned, it is not always easy to outrank them even though there might not be an existing affiliate competition.

One wise thing to plan out is your traffic source, enure you have at least 2-3 in place. It is always advisable to focus on niches that could generate traffic using social media along with your SEO or backlinking. SEO is not cheap.

If those are all listing in the top 10 results, I think I'd be wary of spending too much time and effort on the site - those are all big names that the visitor will be familiar with, and they'll probably be hard to outrank just on the name of the product alone. You might do better by trying to be a little more specific - build the site up, and make the title of each page something like The Product Name Review, The Product Name Tips etc.

Search for the product again for terms like that and see what the competition is like.

          Im gonna say it.

The keyword is "garden spades" just dont steal it

the thing is its so general, and thre is a lot to choose from, which is why a review site may be good to help them decide? Now that the product is released what are your opinions now?

            Wouldn't dream of pinching it

My initial thought was - who would actually search google for a review of a garden spade? Surely a spade is, well, a spade, more or less.

And then I searched google for garden spades reviews and came back with 126,000,000 results, so I guess SOMEONE must be looking for them!

"garden spades reviews" is much better - only 9, but probably not many searches, either. "garden spade reviews" is about 93,000 - not a stupidly huge number, and most of the top 10 results look fairly weak. But I do worry that most users will search without quotes (might be wrong about that) and that gets you 1.43 million results and some slightly stronger competition in the first 10 results.

My feeling is that by building a site around spades alone you could be digging yourself into a hole - there might be a lot of spades on the market, but how many words can you realistically write in reviewing each one without developing a serious spade fixation? If I were you, I think I'd keep the general idea, but expand it - don't stick to spades, do reviews for all kinds of garden tools. You could even split it between power tools and hand tools, lawn mowers, strimmers, spades, shovels, rakes, hoes - much more potential products to go at, the chance to build up a really big, frequently updated site etc.

Gardening is a popular enough pastime that I'm sure some people will be looking for reviews of tools, and if you can be specific enough, you'll probably make some money. For example, googling for Fiskars 9667 Garden Spade Reviews gets 72800 results, and apart from Amazon itself the rest of the results look fairly weak.

As I say, I'm not an Amazon guru, but on those terms I'd probably give it a try - on spades alone, I'm not so sure.

IMO, Depending only on Google search traffic won't be a good idea, specially with any EMD.

So your whole idea for this site is to build it around one keyword that you'll then have to rank to make any money from?

    Not a great idea.

Don't try and build a site based around a single keyword or even a handful of keywords and don't rely on SEO and ranking in Google in order to make money it's pretty much a bad idea at the present time.

Sounds like the type of site that not a single living person would ever want to visit. That means you'll be facing an uphill battle.
