do people donate on your site?

Just curious because im planning to launch a site with some utility softwares.

I have two options first is to keep a price tag for the product and other is to make it available for free.

The benefit of free is that it automatically gets popular by word of mouth. And reaches out to more number of people.

Any experiences here? Please share!

Just a comment on this that many webmasters don't realize.

If you plan to use Paypal, then you should not use the word DONATE unless you are a non profit website. You could lose your Paypal account if you use it. I was personally told this by Paypal. So look for different verbage.

oh! are you sure? I think its allowed cause i see it so many commercial sites.

I notice on various webpages that people accept donations. Yes there would be a fee by paypal if im not a charitable non-profit organisation.

Which of course im not. And im happy to pay the fee!

      Regards.

I guess you can interpret that page however you want, and even though there are thousands of marketers and companies with donation buttons on their site, I have heard many stories of Paypal going after them, freezing their accounts, and refunding all the donated funds back to the donator.

I guess it all depends on your setup. Not sure if giving products for free, and then asking for a donation is considered non profit. It might be considered a business model.

Simply Make a Button that say "Buy Me a Drink" or "Help Me Out" or "Show me some Love" ... Anything like that people will know what its for, as far as if it works.... Well that I cant help with
