Helllo everyone, I would like to know how many out there are successfully advertising offline. I am talking about in magazines, newspapers, classifieds, direct mail etc. I am talking about advertising in order to attract visitors to your website. I do see a lot of people still advertising offline and want to know if it is still a profitable alternative, thanks.

I use offline classified ads to generate leads for my business. I will tell you that I generate about 3x the amount of leads using an 800 lead capture number vs. driving them to my site.

I use all of the above...

It's more powerful then online advertising.

The prospective customer does not know going costs for services, especially those that pertain to online services, thus, I can offer logo design for $200 offline, and $50 online.

Add that to all services and products

It all depends on your demographic. I don't think anyone under 35 has picked up a newspaper in about 10 years. So if you are targeting a middle aged or older audience then your chances of success with traditional media are better.

I get so much junk mail at my house that you start to wonder how this can be effective for advertisers. It all goes straight in the recycling bin and I feel like the advertiser is damaging the environment. Direct Mail is one of the most expensive forms of advertising per impression. All offline advertising is more expensive and more difficult to track effectiveness.

If your online advertising is not working then maybe you should consider advertising on more targeted high quality sites. LMC brings up a good point though about offline consumers being less able to price shop. Unfortunately, it's a shrinking market of offline consumers so you can't expect your business to grow if that's the cornerstone of your marketing.

It's nice to see that offline advertising does work online. I guess those guys paying $7000 a month for a full page ad in a magazine aren't doing it for nothing. I like what doogalo said, " I don't think anyone under 35 has picked up a newspaper in about 10 years." That is very true. I'm 26 and whenever I buy a newspaper and a coffee my coworkers say I'm like an old man.

I'm 55 and still get the Sunday paper only. I want the TV guide and read the business section. My wife clips the ads which more than pays for the paper. Read most of my news online or watch cnn.
