Trying to get my motivation back

So I did great with IM for a while, and am still benefiting passively from it. Back about 6 months ago Google hit my site bad and dropped my search ranking considerably. When that happened I just gave up for a while.

I think my main problem is I start things and stop half way. I have a bunch of random sites that are half way done. But I've got some vacation time and am going to get back on the horse and give this another shot. Anybody have spells like this?

Everyone goes through phases with everything in life - not just IM.

Hey great question dude. And, yes, it does happen to all of us.

The thing to remember that true motivation is internal. You can get sparked up by motivational messages and speeches, but for lasting results it comes from you only - from within.

The trick is to have a vision. Don't become complacent or too content. What we all need is 'inspirational discontent'. How to we get that? Always have a vision beyond where you currently are. I'm not saying to not enjoy where you are. I think you should absolutely do that, and be thankful for it everyday (wherever that is).

So my question to you is: What's your vision? What do you want to improve about your current cirucumstances? Focus on that. Think about it every day. Imagine your future success in these areas and that should get your 'motivational juices' flowing :-)

Yeah, probably from one hour to the next...

Anything new you start takes time to become habitual. So I think, pretty much, it's like that until you "groove" it into your daily routine.

The problem with IM is, discovering what you want to be part of your daily routine, and then sticking to it like crack on rice.

Wait, wrong analogy. But you get my point.

Oh yeah, definitely. I've started way too many projects that have sat there half-finished. It hasn't been until recently that I've dug in my heels and pushed through the points where I'm not motivated because I know those times come and go. Now I keep my eyes focused on where I'm headed and what my goals are and don't let that old "motivation"-"lack-of-motivation" trap stop me from achieving what I want in my business.

It does happen with most people but you need to overcome with your half way work problem.

What gives you motivation? I take a small list of things that motivate me and will do random things to remind myself like changing my desktop background, writing goals on a whiteboard, etc

For me it's all about momentum, focus, interest. That's what keeps me going in this IM journey.

Thanks guys for all the tips. I'm going to focus on one thing, and write down a vision so I can stay on track.

I will decide on ONE website that I want to stay focus on and just start taking massive action. I believe you already have all the knowledge you need and you simply just need to implement it. Keep going and don't give up
