Try holding down the Alt key as you press Print Scrn.

If you have firefox, get this extension:

    Pearl Crescent Page Saver

Works really well and you can get a screenshot of the whole website, not just what's showing on the screen.

    Colin has it -

    PrtScn - complete screen capture
    Alt-PrtScn - Active window only

The go to Paint and use Ctrl-V to paste the image in.

If you need to use even less of the image - use the selection tool - select the portion you need and then you can copy and paste into a new paint window before saving.

That certainly works for images - unfortunately not for screenshots.

Don't download snag it, unless you want purchase it after your free trail, just download screenhunter, it's free, not trail period.
I'll second that. ScreenHunter is great, I've used the free version for several years.

I think Jing will do this for you...plus do short screen recordings. Check out JingProject...not sure if it's a dot com or dot org, but it's free.

I do prefer Snagit for this type of thing - you can get a free copy of an older version of Snagit (currently V9) at oldapps.com and do a search for snagit

    If you're using IE-

    Just press Print Scrn...

    Copy the image into Paint...

Save it as whatever you want...

Open it in windows picture viewer...

Then select fix image and crop it
    to whatever size you want.

This will let you get rid of the
    time and anything else you
    dont want to show.

    And you don't need to
    download anything extra.

As other have said you don't *need* a specialized program for screenshots. If you are taking them to document something or will be taking a bunch of them. Something like Snaggit will prove worthy of the price many times over in time savings.
