Can you put sales videos on youtube?

This is a really dumb question, but is there anything against Youtube's TOS that says you can't put a sales video on their website?

    Well here are some quotes from the youtube TOS (just took a quick google search, my man!)

    You agree not to use the Service for any of the following commercial uses unless you obtain YouTube's prior written approval:
    • the sale of access to the Service;
    • the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions placed on or within the Service or Content; or
    • the sale of advertising, sponsorships, or promotions on any page of an ad-enabled blog or website containing Content delivered via the Service, unless other material not obtained from YouTube appears on the same page and is of sufficient value to be the basis for such sales.

    However! Below it does say this,
    Prohibited commercial uses do not include:
    • uploading an original video to YouTube, or maintaining an original channel on YouTube, to promote your business or artistic enterprise;
    • showing YouTube videos through the Embeddable Player on an ad-enabled blog or website, subject to the advertising restrictions set forth above in Section 4.D; or
    • any use that YouTube expressly authorizes in writing.

    So with that said, it seems like no direct sales or linking to direct sales. However you can promote your business on it. It almost seems like they are being intentionally confusing so they can 'enforce it on their will'. Also needless to say we've all seen countless 'sales' videos on youtube, so people probably get away with it.

    Hopefully this helped!

      Having just gone through YouTube's TOS I can't see anything that specifically states you cannot use a sales video.

      Why not set up a throw away account, list the video and see what happens.

  • I think the term sales video can be interpreted in many ways. One of our channels has nothing but samples of our sound effects. Are they sales videos? Is a legit product review video with a link to your website for more information a sales video? When marketers use YouTube as their main product video, is that a sales video? Either way, I've seen thousands, and I'm sure there are millions. So as mcgrathcullin mentioned above, YouTube is probably being "intentionally confusing".

    By sales video, I mean an animated doodle cartoon, about 20 minutes long, selling a weight loss book. I'm not really concerned about the account, but I just don't want the video not playing one day... causing me to lose the advertising money I'm spending on the traffic.

    This is what most people do, not only youtube but also to so many others like dailymotion, metacafe, vemo etc. You just need an account with them.

      Phil - Classic!

      My favourite keyword tool from 'back in the day' got shut down when the person running it went AWOL.
