Advice for starting out on Clickbank?

Hi all,
I've read through a lot of the threads and thoughts here and was wondering if there is any advice here for a vendor just starting out on a network looking to gain affiliates. I have a product that sells offline but now that I've gotten online, I see that the things that attract affiliates ie conversions, gravity, etc seem to be on the more established products' sides. My pitch page is Total Profit Reviews | Bringing Businesses and Customers Together for anyone that would like to take a look and give an opinion. thanks

The single best way to attract affiliates is to have a proven sales funnel and sales letter that converts.

Top affiliates really will only promote offers that are proven winners, so the best way to attract top affiliates is to become known as a proven seller in your niche.

Until that happens, you'll never attract the top affiliates that can send massive amounts of traffic.

The top of Clickbank stays on the top, most of the time, because most affiliates promote those who are on top... and so they keep them on top.

Back in 2003 or so, when I was #5 on all of clickbank in the fitness niche... I got there by focusing on making my program a top seller... and did it myself by driving insane amounts of traffic.

once other affiliates saw my site rise up the ranks, that's when they started promoting me without me having to ask them. Good affiliates are aware of the top offers.

so, if you want to get affiliates, focus on getting traffic and sales yourself, to start making enough sales where you get noticed and you naturally attract affiliates!

I couldn't have said this better myself.

Another thing you can do which falls into the law of reciprocity is to promote your competitors products and make them some money. Then contact them, let them know you promoted their stuff and made them money, and you'll have more of a chance to get them to reciprocate and promote your offer - assuming it converts which goes back to what shawnlebrun said.

Bottom line is get your offer converting. Test and tweak it by sending massive amounts of traffic using different media so you can get metrics for all kinds of traffic and post it on your affiliate page.

Affiliates should be the last thing you worry about.

    It's a wheelbarrow effect.

For a start, you need to go and actively recruit affiliates to help you. Otherwise you can hire an affiliate/JV broker to help. The moment things start moving, your gravity on Clickbank will increase, and affiliates will see that as profitable and hop on.

And of course, as shawn said, it's obvious that you need a proven sales letter that can convert. You might want to hire a copywriter to do a good page for you, and you need to constantly split-test to get your conversion rates higher and higher by the week. You can test by running some cold traffic on it.

You might want a affiliate portal/page to give affiliates ease of promotion as well.

It also helps attract affiliates if you offer a high commission rate.

You'll find that the affiliates that look for high gravity products are the worst kind of affiliates to attract. They may create a few youtube videos, get a few sales, then abandon ship and start over with another product.

The affiliates you want to attract understand that high gravity is pointless to focus on. Rather, they'll scour out great sales pages, then actually buy the product, then read over it. Only then will they decide to promote it because they would have found a product that is a right fit for their target audience.

The latter group are the affiliates who will bring you 90% of your income (speculating, but I'm sure it's somewhat true).

    Hope this helps.

      This. Exactly. All of it.

I think it's more than just "somewhat" true: it's even an understatement, if anything. The high-volume vendors I deal with all put that figure at higher than 95%.

I agree with the Warriors that you will want to drive traffic to your own offer first to make sure that it converts. But one thing that I have seen people doing is that they encourage their customers to become their affiliate once they have purchased the product. This will also help to convert some of them into your affiliate.
