How to manage all those passwords?

I'm looking for a good utility to store all my passwords. A spreadsheet or word doc is not great for this..

Any ideas?

My guess is that the vast majority of Warriors will be using:
RoboForm: Password Manager, Form Filler, Password Management

As well as Roboform I keep all mine in CoffeeCup Lockbox. You can download a trial version from the coffeecup site. The full version is only $19.

Another regular question which keeps popping up.

I agree with John - you will probably find Roboform : Many v Others : Few

Personally, I couldn't cope without it (Roboform) - it's an age thing

It IS an age thing :-)

I use Roboform and have done for a few years now, there used to be a free version - not sure if there still is.

I recently moved over to their Roboform Portable which enables you to store the whole thing on a USB key - great for me because in an average week i will use my Desktop, Big Laptop and little Netbook so the combo of Roboform + Xmarks which synchs all my bookmarks, rss feeds etc as well means I'm as near as damnit device independant when i'm working or playing :-)

Another one from the Roboform Brigade

Seriously, Do yourself a favor and stick with Roboform. Not only its easy to use but its a personal favorite of several IMers. The free version will only store upto 10 passwords but $29 that you've pay for the upgrade is well worth it.

KeePass. The price is right at $0. I have a couple hundred passwords in this thing. Nice and safe and encrypted. I think the link is keepass.info

Leads Leap Affiliate ID Manager stores lots of relevant information, is free and a very handy tool IMHO and again, the price is definitely right at free ... as is most of their software.

And that's a key point made by Dave. In other words:

Say for instance that Google is your home page:

All you have to do to log into Warriorforum or say for instance your email account is go up to the Roboform toolbar and with JUST ONE click you'll not only be bring the website up but you'll be logged in, too.

        Maybe this was said.

But a few years ago I went old school. I
went out and bought an address book.

Then I started writing my usernames and passwords
in there alphabetically according to the site name.

        Works like a champ.

Yeah, Roboform is great if you use a PC. For the Mac, I use 1Password.

(when I switched to Mac a little over a year ago, Roboform was PC-only.... maybe that's changed though)

RoboForm for me - couldn't live without it now. I use it for my desktop and my laptop.

I also have the portable version on a flashdrive for when I'm away from home 'laptopless'.

I think that there is now a free version available that stores more than 10 passwords - check out their site.

I must be way out of date, I keep mine (about a hundred or so) in a little black address book (2.4 x 4.5). No worries about being hacked or system crashes and I find it it totally portable.

I love Roboform. My husband got me interested in it a year or so ago and I've used it ever since. Before that, I relied on my....brain *eek!*

There is a free version of Roboform that stores something like 10 or 15 passwords, but once you start using it for everything, 10 or 15 just isn't enough. They have a portable one too that you can carry on a USB stick which is really handy!

I purchased RoboForm at the suggestion of other Warriors... and it's a good program. (Though I'm still a bit disappointed that I actually had to pay to get a password solution).

Tip: You should be able to snag a copy of RoboForm on Ebay for less than $25 (if you're willing to be patient).

I agree ... Roboform is by far the best password/log in service out there. I have tried mulitple ones in the past and RF is by far superior.

So, you want to sell me another way to easily make "X" dollars in "X" days? ROFL too funny! IM success requires hard work and lots of time. Most newbies do not survive the steep learning curve. Anyone who says otherwise is probably selling you a fantasy.

I use RoboForm and also have saved some in notepad tp copy/paste when needed. I did not know that I could take my Roboform with me on a USB device. It is hard having several computers and not having what I want on the one I happen to be using at that time....LOL

Well I usually use one password for all of my accounts (obviously I change the username).

None the less, if you like to randomly pick your password I suggest the humble notebook. Simply write the sites address, your user name and password.

This is fairly simple and it gets the job done.

This is a no, no, no.

As IMer yu expect hundreds of passwords for sure unless you outsourcing your work.

This is a necessity for IMers to have a program that can:

      1. Remembers your password
      2. Automatically fill-in the userID/password in a site you have an account
      3. Store in a server so if your PC crashes or you move to another PC you are still fine.

I am a big fan of cloud computing. I hate to install programs in my PC as I hate to re-install if my PC dies. If a web-based app can do, use web-based products, things like myvidoop, Google docs/excels. etc..

      Just my 2 cents.

      Thanks.
      Yaji

I remember seeing and downloading several password manager softwares on cnet. or download.com but then again, that was quite a while ago. Might want to check it out. As far as I remember, they had some pretty decent freeware out there

RoboForm is out-dated. The new trend is to use myvidoop. You don't need to carry your laptop to access those passwords it's stored in their server with strong encryption.

So if my laptop crashes or I moved to another computer I am still OK.

    Hi Fred
I use KeePass Portable on a flash drive so you can take it with you anywhere.
And also you don't lose them if your computer goes down, which I've found to be a life saver.
You can get it from portableapps.com
And as Rich mentioned it's free.

    Regards

Fireforx(set to store all your passwords) + XMarks - a free plugin that will help you share your bookmarks from a PC to another one if you use more than one computer. You can encrypt your passwords with a key only you know.

    Take care

You can take down note with it, or in a note pad and save to your flash drive sothat you can have it anywhere or save your notepad to your email address. but the best thing is to have common password or at least 3 so that you can manage it easily and keep it always memorized.

Looks like majority of the members who have responded use RoboForm.

I use KeePass, as some of the members here do. It's open source and it's free. Maybe 1 or 2 more clicks/keystrokes compared to RoboForm but I have gotten used to it.

Besides, the passwords file is portable.

Yes I'm another happy RoboForm user I also bought the version for USB - which is quite handy if you are using public computers. Otherwise without it I can barely log into anything! The only thing I don't do enough of is sync my USB RoboForm2Go with my main RoboForm on my laptop.
