Recommendations For Reseller Hosting?

Hey fellow Warriors! So, I have seen a lot of talk about Hostgator being slow lately on here... Who are you guys and gals recommending these days for reseller hosting accounts?

Appreciate any and all input.

My hostgator accounts seem to be hanging a bit lately...but I'd still recommend them for reseller accounts.

I was wondering the same thing I did a page load test for site5 and arvixe and their home pages scored worse than my sites hosted on HostGator that I am having trouble with.

What do you hope to learn from testing the load time of three different web pages on three different hosting providers?

This certainly isn't a reliable way to tell which hosting provider is best. Not at all.

Do you conclude that HostGator is the "fastest" based on your tests?

That's because the affiliate site in the signature is pushing iPage/HostGator, not Arvixe. Of course there'd be no benefit there... Just my opinion..

Thanks for the recommendation here! Much appreciated. I think however, Warrior Forum might be blocking our links now as the link you posted is adding a %22 to it.

I don't think they're blocking links, but that link has a few problems:

I see. I thought maybe the mods were kicking me out again. They kept removing the link to our site as an affiliate link since it's just tracked through our tracking system.

That's because Hostgator hosts it site elsewhere. Customers, however, are put on the crappy slow-loading servers in their datacenter.

I'd also be curious what kind of tests you ran. Hostgator puts almost nothing on its homepage. Of course it's "faster".

I don't think some people really know what they're doing, when it comes to site testing.

      Hi Kingfish,

I am looking to start my own web design and hosting company. I am going to start out small but would like a package that would allow plenty of space and growth for an affordable amount.

A reseller plan would be a good start. I'd recommend doing a bit of research & contacting some companies directly and asking questions. I would also advise staying away form companies that also sell unlimited hosting for their shared hosting.

As you grow, you can upgrade to a larger plan or eventually into a virtual solution.

How many sites do you need to host? What kind of apps are you going to run (what scripting engines etc)? are you reselling wordpress, your web design work or going to setup your own hosting business?

Quality reselling is available from a2hosting and readymakers.
Both companies have plans which are full of useful resources and their prices are not high.
      Support is active and helpful.

I would basically like to find a reseller account similar to all the features offered by Hostgator. I would like to be able to setup CMS sites such as Joomla and Wordpress as well as basic websites. I want to design and host all websites for all customers that I will be acquiring locally.

If you don't know how to manage a server, configure it and so on, then buy a reseller account, do your research first then buy one.

I have been around internet marketing and designing sites on virtual hosting accounts for about 10 years but am now looking at getting into the hosting side of things as well. Thanks for the tips.

Larry - I'd get some customers first - some local clients that will basically pay for your hosting. The main thing as a reseller is setup your own DNS, so you can easily point customers to whatever host you want and easily change the IP's you point to at any time. The issues with HG and BH today are a good example of why you want to do this.

One thing I see a number of our customers do is setup accounts with multiple hosts to test the infrastructure and services. You will find it will be the subtle things, restrictions, apps not available, cpu limits or specific settings that will cause you frustrations. It's a good idea to test first with a small plan.

Some hosts can offer unlimited accounts due to the large infrastructure and number of servers they run as they run with large available capacity. Servers today are incredibly efficient.

Thanks MMChael!! Great advice. I am currently leaning towards a2hosting.com and was wondering about it coming with 1 dedicated IP. Are customers going to worry about that or does it matter? I know people that are aware of backlinking for seo purposes like to get IP's on different c-classes. Does 1 dedicated IP allow me to be able to do that or do you have any input on that?

Wishful thinking though - I would be will to bet you'll be "upgraded" soon. EIG isn't going to keep paying for leased servers at SoftLayer and it's almost certain that IBM will eventually increase prices to cater to larger enterprises. I'm pretty sure IBM purchased SoftLayer for their automation systems, not their customer base.

Try checking out some of the following and see what suits you best base on what you're looking:
    - MDD Hosting: a little more costly but highly reliable service and fast servers
    - Hostdime: we're currently using them for some hosting; big business with reasonable service
    - Namecheap: had a shared hosting there and it works well, support is fast and good
    - Stablehost: likely one of the hidden gems. Cheap costs and good servers
    - Jaguar PC: same prices as HostGator and they have a good track record

If I am just starting out in the web hosting game and will be getting clients locally to build websites for and then hosting myself, how important is it to have WHMCS? Is this something I may not need now? The price for this feature is $10 monthly and the hosting package I am looking at is only $10 monthly. So, is it really worth it at this point to double my bill when I may only have a handful of customers in the near future? Any thoughts or opinions on this?

Many web hosts include whmcs in their reseller plans. Whmcs is great for automation tasks, support desk, client management etc.

Right Kingfish, but in your opinion, for someone starting out with no clients and that will slowly get them, do you think it's worth it to double my bill from 10 to 20 a month for that feature alone?

Well, for a quality reseller account, and I mean good quality, non-overloaded etc, 10 bucks isn't really going to cut it. For example, with our reseller plans, even if we didn't incude WHMCS for free, the prices wouldn't be lower. We include WHMCS/ClientExec as a courtesy.

I do understand it's human nature to go cheaper however, the quality of service, hardware/software, technical support etc, will also reflect that lower price. If we were selling cheap, bottom of the barrel plans, I would not be able to pay my technical support & would end up with know nothings that give canned responses vs having real skills/expertise.

Point well taken Kingfish. I would prefer to go with you as you're a Warrior and also from my hometown. I was just attempting to get out as cheap as possible while still getting a quality product. The A2hosting program isn't really much of a difference in price, if I add WHMCS to it and their state drives option. In fact, I'm sure I would be better off going with you and that is what I am going to do. You just got a new customer.

The A2hosting program isn't really much of a difference in price, if I add WHMCS to it and their state drives option. In fact, I'm sure I would be better off going with you and that is what I am going to do. You just got a new customer.

Just one question and I'm good I think... Not able to locate the DNS servers info.

You should have received a few emails with all of your account information. One of the emails would have been titled "Your reseller hosting account information - Veerotech Systems"

There's also another way to view all emails sent: Log into the account management portal, from the navigation menu click "Billing > Emails" and you'll see all emails that were sent.

I'm also going to re-send the email to you as well as open up a ticket for you.

I like Hostnine for reseller accounts.... Yes, they are an EIG company (same as Hostgator) and that's a negative, however, I use them for the diverse IP's they offer on the same account. They are the only company I have found that I can pick my location out of the 4 they offer for EACH account I set up. Then, if you time it right, you can get a new IP for each of those locations. If you are into building a PBN then this is worth its weight in gold to me. The OP has different needs it seems but Hostnine has been great in other areas too so I would recommend them.

Back in the day I was using supreme server's reseller program which was good. I heard somethings about 1&1's program. Has anyone ever dealt with them?

Did receive 4 emails to my gmail account but not the one you spoke of unless it went to a different spot. Thanks, I will look in the other location as you suggested.

Hmm, perhaps Gmail might have flagged it as spam/junk - sometimes this happens since the email has key words such as "account information/login" and such.

I did also open a ticket under your account as well, which has the requested info inside of the ticket. You should see the ticket on the main dashboard page once logging in.

    Hi,
I recommend Hostwithcarol. Her servers are run by Liquid Web. Haven't had a bit of trouble. I don't get compensation for referring.

I would not suggest getting a vps and doing it your self. NO NO NO NO there is way too much liabilities and headaches. If you want to do this right so you can convert the sale and move to the next one, then find a good reseller. We used SupremeServer back in the day, they were good, great to work with.

For reseller accounts, I have only used Hostgator. They seem to do a great job. I was having issues with them a while back, but now everything is working great.

They have some awesome support as well.
