Default Adding captions using Camtasia and Youtube.

Adding captions to recorded video is not only visually effective, but can also make up for "DUH" moments where you forgot to mention something important. Now you can always add another audio over-lay, but I find that takes a lot of editing and the narration never sounds as natural when you have to inject it in during the editing process.

Hence, captions in Camatasia. These are little fade-in text boxes that let you clarify a situation by drawing readers attention to a text point - but it also helps in making your video more visually interesting. I use them all the time now, like in this video:

(Warning: sorry but most of my videos contain some profanity)

Now still sometimes, even after editing there are often important pieces of information that you may have neglected to add. That is when you can use youtube's annotation feature which is very useful and simple to use. As you may have noted in this video I posted a URL to my forum for viewers interested in asking more questions.

The annotation feature is also VERY useful for older videos you have on youtube that you just cant be bothered to re-render, but you might want to add something to it like a new website address, product update info, or an outright error you want to correct, etc. etc.

However, before you add annotations check your user data on your youtube channel - and under "discovery" you will find "hot spots" which basically shows you where your viewers are paying the most attention to your video. Those points are great spots to add new notes, links, or any other information you want to add that will make your video more credible.

Also the annotations can show URL information, but a live link is only valid if it points to another youtube video (google doesnt want you to leave yt just yet), so keep that in mind when posting your own URLs.

In general I believe using captions and annotations, viewers will find you more credible while you are also making the content more relevant and with a better flow of information.

Hope this helps with your YT marketing.
