OHHHHHHH S#1T!!!! the secret to money wasn't what I thought it would be!!! (Scary)

Hey Gang

How's that for a Post headline lol. Anyway, still struggling? Please keep reading...

Most of us go through the following sequence before making money:

Phase 1) You discover that you can make money online. You buy various products, get very excited, through up a site as quickly as possible and then spend a sleepless night thinking about all the money you're going to have in your PayPal or Clickbank account the following morning.

Phase 2) Weeks or even months (sometimes years!!!!) pass without making any decent amount of money. At this point, you need to look at what you did THAT day to promote your site, or to improve it...often you will find you didn't do anything. The next day is the same, and the one after that...

Phase 3) Ok, so you see posts about "you need to take MASSIVE action". So you say to yourself "right, that's it, I'm going to roll my sleeves up and really go for it. You start writing a new post for your site every day, you post 3 - 5 times a day on Facebook, you email a ton of site owners hoping for a joint venture partnership...and so on. You do this for month after which you are sick to death, close to getting brain damage...and maybe still don't have very much to show for it. "Dammit, I took massive action and nothing happened, what's the point!!!!"

Phase 4) Oh dear, this is where many will give up. Those who don't are starting to wonder if this is all a scam..."why is it not working for me". You stop your daily posting and emailing, and go back to buying products again looking for the secret.................

GANG....if you are not careful, this cycle can go on for years, how do I know??? Don't ask!!!! ;-)

Who wants to skip to phase 5????

Phase 5) Ok, stick with me please. Now, you may have read about the importance of writing a list of what you should be doing each day (possibly write it the night before), this is very good advice but many do it for a few days and then start letting it slip.

Here's what I did, and what I suggest you try, it has worked a treat for me.

FIRST THING!! I know this is so difficult, but if you have multiple websites, niches etc....PICK ONE!!!!!!! Pick the one you think has the most chance of making you money the quickest and keeping you interested for as long as possible. Once you have one site making money, it is sooo much easier to use the money to get others up and running. If however, you do more than one at once BEFORE making money, then you are halving the time spent on each one, thus doubling the time it will take to get either of them making moolah.

...ah, but I hear what you are thinking.. "but if I have two sites, won't that double my chances because one or the other might take off". Honestly, pleaseeeeeee, follow what I say.

Ok, so you have one site. The next thing is to decide what your daily plan is going to be for everyday. The difference being is the list is going to be the same for each day, and it isn't going to be so long that it will drive you insane.

For example, here is my list which I do day in, day out for my ONE site.

1) Do one post for my site
2) Announce that post with a link on my Facebook page
3) Do the same for twitter (of course, you can automate these two steps if you want via plugins)
4) Contact a Blog/site owner or YouTube owner to try and form a relationship (p.s not say "hi, can you promote my stuff lol"

AND THAT IS IT! I don't create a different list for the following day, it is the same every day, and it isn't so many things that it drives me nuts. I should be able to take only an hour or two each day, you could do less if you like.

The point being, is after a month, I will have 30 pieces of contents for my site, I will have 30 links to my post from Facebook (which others may share) and the same for Twitter. Also, I may make contact with one or two big hitters that can literally change your life over night. Even if not much happens after one or two months, it hasn't killed me and made me feel like giving in. However, I guarantee that if you keep this up for even 2 or 3 month, you WILL start to see results,

I have a weight loss site I was doing this with, everyone says WL is really competitive. Just by posting daily alone, after TWO months the site was getting nearly 300 hits a day.

Do me a favour, create your daily list NOW, print it out, stick it on your wall, put it on your PC desktop, tattoo it on your wee willy winkle or on your babylons and follow it daily!!

All the best and good luck.
Phil

      Hi Phil,

This what I do. I think it sounds so simple that nobody does the simple stuff. My best small niche is the best simply because of my daily and regular attention. Thanks for the reminder.

Good post. If one adopts your mentality he is certain to succeed. Truly the ones who fail are the ones who give up. Those who persevere always succeed in the end.

Honestly, I am going to implement your advises in my daily routine.
Having a positive and never-dying mindset is the key for having
      success in IM world.

Another thing, which is generally found in beginners is that they
want to generate money as soon as possible. Yes! there are instant
money generating options available, but they are achieved after lot
      of hard-work and rough patches.

In beginning, sticking to one source of income is the vital component
and after having success and passive income from that source, one
      should move to other source.

I totally agree Phil. I am one of those guys who tried to take on too much (trying to manage and build over 50 websites at one time) and never saw the results I wanted. Eventually, I gave up since it wasn't working. LOL Sound advice though and this is the game plan I will now follow once I get back into the game soon.

Good post. I've found that every time I've made money it was from a simple routine that I do regularly. You need to keep it simple and be sure you're not taking on too many things. Try to make your approach as streamlined as you can!

Also, do everything in bite-sized pieces. Don't make it too hard on yourself or you won't be motivated to keep on doing it.

    Hi Phil,

You've certainly given this post a good deal of thought. Nicely done. I suspect your website(s) are "content rich" in light of your writing here.

No doubt, there are a plethora of distractions online, and of course life itself, so staying focused is clearly a key to making money online. It's been said by many to make lists. Not new news by any means. Nevertheless, well stated on your part.

    Keep up the good work!

      Hey Phil,
Thanks for bringing this up. Distraction is a huge time killer for us online marketers, and our time is precious. Like... YouTube, StumbleUpon, and ESPECIALLY cat memes! Ugh now I feel like opening those sites... *slaps hand* lol

What I did was include a "distraction time" in my daily online routine. So now I have 30 minutes of distraction time when working. Most of the time, I don't even consume all of my 30 minutes because I'm already in this "make money" mentality. It helps to think that if you're not making money, you're losing it. And if you're not on your money-making routine, you're also losing money.

Plus I've got some sort of "secret" too when trying to stay focused. I put a song on "repeat" and fall into some sort of trance while I work (WordPress designer and website reseller). Works all the time for me.

And thumbs up for the headline!

        Hey Guys

Some really cool comments and feedback, thanks!! I like the point Holley made about allowing a distraction time. If you know you like to surf, watch youtube, FB or whatever, that's fine, just set a limit on how much you do that.

I work best in the mornings, so I start working on a project before opening ANYTHING else, just working solid at a high concentration level for the morning can equate to a day's worth of normal work. I also use the method of working hard for 50 minutes, take a 10 minute break to play games or watch youtube, then another 50 minutes work, 10 minute break and so on. I find it useful to use an online stopwatch to do this: Online Stopwatch

While working for the 50 minutes, you must NOT do anything else like answering email, the phone, skype etc.

        Cheers

You're spot on Phil! I fell into the trap of trying to juggle too many websites whilst buying every gurus courses on video marketing, email marketing, SEO - you name it. I have helped more than a few gurus pay for their kids college education.

Your point about focus rings true. As soon as I chose one path and one niche the overwhelm reduced massively. Then eventually, (discipline is another biggy) I saw results.

I agree with you 100% but let me give you another perspective. When I publish a "To do List" was a good thing to start with. I'm the type of person where I try to get as many things done as possible. So, in a nutshell I crossed off the easy ones first and found the gold mine to my business.

At the end of day, I was doing the easy tasks and leaving the hard ones for the afternoon. In my business you don't want to do that for sure. What I found is to reverse the process.

Do the hard one first. And the easy ones you can procrastinate. Well you might say isn't procrastination a bad thing? Well no, if they are the easy tasks and don't put in money in your pocket.

Honestly, I wouldn't have stumble on the process if it wasn't for the "To Do List" Finally, procrastination is human nature and everyone does it, so, don't feel like a pregnant nun!

You want to do the hard ones in the morning when you are fresh.

It really is as simple as this post says it is - people confuse "MASSIVE" action with "consistent" action. It's like this in anything you do whether it's exercise, learning an instrument or a new skill, or building a successful business.

I teach a ton of guitar lessons and it's the students who go home and practice 15-20 minutes a day that progress, not the ones who practice for 2 hours right before the lesson and then never touch it for the rest of the week.

Find a few things that are measurable and do them consistently, day in, day out and you'll see progress, in fact you can't HELP but see progress.

Here is a favorite quote of mine related to the consistency you're talking about:
