Default Am I choosing the an effective domain name?

I am targeting a keyword but the domain name is taken.

Would www .123keyword. com be just as effective?

You can try that. For example, your selected keyword is ugly... you can try 123ugly.com.. or try any other addition...

Why not 101 or 411? Which would be associated with information? Like [Keyword]101.com or [Keyword]411.com (Eg. DoorKnobs101.com / DoorKnobs411.com)

To me... 123 has no "meaning" but I understand what you're trying to do (get the keyword into your domain with the least amount of characters). However, I think there are smart ways to do this (like what is listed above).

You can combine it with another relevant keyword

Hey guys,

I wasnt going to use 123 i was just using that as an example, how effective would it be if I used numbers in the domain.

Is this an effective way of getting the keyword into the title?

your domain name can be a call to action of some sort. numbers in your domain name, if it's irrelevant, has lowered click through rates for some people that i know. just something to think about.

like brian said there are a lot of better ways to do what you're trying to accomplish.

There are tons of ways to do this.

Are the .orgs and .nets taken?

If they are, you can do anything from:

[keyword]review.com, [keyword]lowdown.com,
[keyword]info.com, [keyword]stuff.com.

There's a million variations, but they aren't
all going to get the same SEO juice from
the big G.

I'm not sure exactly how they rank it,
but my money says they prefer as close
to complete keyword optimization as
possible - eg as few characters in the
domain name along with the keyword
as possible.

How about using Google External Tool for a long-tailed "expansion" of your keyword? If your keyword was "Soy Sauce" perhaps the tool will show that "barbecue soy sauce" or "soy sauce fondue" or "soy sauce recipe" is a decent long-tailed KW phrase... Now you get twice the bang for your buck - the KW "soy sauce" and the KW phrase "soy sauce recipe" both live in www.soysaucerecipe.com

A lot of good ideas. I follow Chuck's post when I create new sites and domains.

I also have been starting to use hypens for SE ranking but they don't work for direct navigation strategies. The best thing to do is to figure out how what you are going for and then how you are going to promote it. If you want a domain that is easy to remember forget the hypens.
