Promoting Blog Posts Via Paid Methods

In terms of creating new followers (blog, facebook) and gaining real natural backlinks for SEO, has anyone had what they would call "success" in buying paid ads that link directly to high quality blog posts?

I would think this could be a viable strategy for new blogs looking to gain exposure, so long as the content was above par.

A succesful ad campaign may be relative, but what I would look for is:

Creating Brand Awareness
Email Subscribers
Social Followers
Blog/RSS Followers
Comments to show social proof
Other sites creating natural backlinks

    Marketers I know that are into blogging and S.E.O., including some well-known ones, don't use paid traffic like that or at all. Aside from getting traffic via search, they focus on list building and having their own products to promote to said list as well as promoting products as an affiliate.

    Which ad platforms offer this service? Isn't there a WP plugin that does this for free?

    If you're looking to capture the lead first and then link them to your content, with the intent of selling to them later on, then yes.

    Otherwise I don't see a point. You'd be paying for visitors that may not return again, or even read your stuff at all.
