2 Membership Site Questions

Hello everyone,

I am creating a membership site and need a little advice from you all.

My first question is if I should use DLGuard? What do you recommend?

My membership site will hopefully pretty simple and just be a Word press blog that is only accessible to members. It will be a normal kind of membership site with a recurring monthly fee. I would like some software that takes care of various things such as: when a member cancels their membership, their access is automatically revoked.

I know PHP and Web programming but I really really don't want to spend the time to build my own infrastructure. So I am happy to shell out some money for a system that works.

Is DLGuard the best solution? I looked through the forum archives and I saw a bunch of different solutions recommended but DLGuard seemed to be the most popular.

My second question is what payment processor should I use?

I plan on charging something like one cent for the first month and $27 every month after that. I'm considering using click Bank or PayPal.

I like PayPal because I don't have to wait for a check. The money at least feels like it's in my pocket a lot faster. But having affiliates is probably a lot harder.

The nice thing with click Bank is that you can have affiliates. But you have to wait for a check from them.

I am leaning towards PayPal but am wondering if you recommend one or the other.

Not sure about ClickBank but I believe with paypal you have to charge at least $1, even on the trial periods. Perhaps someone who has tested this can confirm or dispute it though.

As for which script to use, first you should figure out exactly what you what your site to do and what features you will need. Also look at future growth and what features you think you might want to add in the future.

After you have a list of requirements you will be better able to judge which membership solution is best for you personally. You might get 20 different answers as to which one is "best" but honestly, that only means its the best for them, not necessarily the best for you. I've seen several times people asking on here which is the best and buying based on the popular vote, only to end up having to buy a second solution to meet their own personal needs.

  • Clickbank's minimum payment for the trial is $4.95 by the way. Still, having a bunch of potential affiliates sending you prospects is worth going for Clickbank over Paypal in my opinion.

    Hi Nick,
I'm new to this forum and trying to find my way around. Saw your post and a program called [easymemberpro] came to my mind. Have you checked that out?

    Hi Nick,

Delavo apparently is going to be the way to go - launching on the 17th - it will be a free bonus to John Delavera's Birthday Bash - I am told it will have a Wordpress plugin.

If you cannot wait till then, John's Little Script For Running A Membership Site (you would have to protect the entire Wordpress Directory) would be the way to go and is only $47 (I am an authorized reseller) - JVManager 1 ($97) and JVManager 2 Fantasos ($3000) both have the capability of tracking affiliates as well as a lot more (I also supply hosted accounts from $5 p.m.).

You can use both payment processors with JVM-1 or JVM-2 - let the customer choose.

I recommend getting a merchant account. Forget about PayPal.

Just wanted to add I would figure out some type of funnel that would allow you to get people in for free. Then optimize the heck out of your continuity mechanism and figure out how to keep people on board for more than a month or two.

    I recommend "google"

    here ya go.

Use this search term/criteria "wordpress membership plugin" and there are enough results to throw a stick at.

    Some of them are "free".
