How to determine a publisher website's traffic, when Alexa is unreliable?

I used to depend on alexa when buying banner ads on other sites, to determine the rough amount of traffic that site is supposed to be getting.
It used to give somehow reliable estimations for a while, but recently it is totally unreliable (I know they only count installations of their toolbar and other few factors.. etc. that now seem to be messing up the reliability more than before).
I've noticed that sites that have very good alexa rankings would actually be getting very little traffic, while others with horrible alexa ranks would be driving killer traffic.
So, other than asking the site owner for a screenshot of their analytics account before buying, what other site/source do you go to to get a better traffic estimation?
