Start-up business advice

Hi there,

I recently launched a speed dating business in Belfast Question Date - Speed Dating Belfast - HOME and our first event is coming up in three weeks time, but uptake for tickets has been very slow. As a new company our seo ranking is still quite low although we've managed to get onto the first page of google results for certain keywords.

I've been marketing mainly on local facebook event pages, twitter, meetup.com and on pof but all my efforts seem to be having little effect.

I'm thinking of printing some leaflets etc and targeting gyms, bars etc but will this work any better than targeting singles on pof and meetup?

Any ideas/marketing advice on how to promote a local speed dating event would be greatly appreciated.

Kind Regards
Stephen

Use your facebook page to create an event, and encourage people to invite their mates

I would think anything you can do to get the word out about your event would be helpful.

It takes awhile for a new site to get traffic traction, even with the best of plans and effort.

Also, there's a possibility that your message is not resonating with your audience for some reason. Is your advertising really compelling? People are so busy and so numb to most advertising that often it takes a real "attention grabber" to get them to focus on a message.

    The best to you,

Hello, take some marketing/advertorial ideas from this site called doubleyourdating.com

This was a very successful site number of years ago, cited and lauded by many big gurus on the
way the selling point on the site was crafted.

Maybe its passed so many hands now and as SteveB says people are so numbed to their brains on
all the ads that hit us now in everyday life.

      Could be starting point anyways.
      Hope it helps!

Have you tried hiring the services of a social media expert? I would suggest you hire a person mainly for promotion so you can focus on offline promotion and leverage the business.

I'd target gyms and bars as well. Maybe you could even get the bar to sponsor the event or host one of the next events.

I agree with the suggestion to look at advertising at bars and seeing they'd be interested in hosting a future event.

I believe a lot of it will have to do with who you know, how many people you know, and how "known" you are in the community you're in. Word of mouth would probably be the best bet once people start coming. To get people to start coming, you may need to offer an incentive.
