Hang in there andrea, I was the same way a month ago, now I can figure out just about anything.

If you need help with things go to wordpress.org support forums, and post questions in the how-to and troubleshooting section.

That's what I did, probably annoyed the hell out of everyone with a lot of questions, but it worked!

Everything is a little intimidating in the beginning. I'm sure you've overcome challenges in the past. A few weeks from now WordPress will be just another challenge you've conquered. If anything, try making a simpler site but with great content and then go back and jazz the site up a little bit. Good luck.

What are you having trouble with? You have lots of helpful information (search G or YouTube) around.

Plus if you want someone else to do it for you, you can hire some really good hands for cheap at sites like Fiverr. From your OP it doesn't seem like a complicated project. People at Fiverr will be more than able to help you out.

I think someone else already said it: Weebly. A long time ago, probably ten years ago now, I built my first website using Bravenet. It was very easy. Not sure if it still exists now!

WP is pretty easy, but I understand. When I moved some blogs that I had had on blogger for a long time over to WordPress, there was a bit of a learning curve. Once you get it down though, you should be alright. Google your questions- there are so many people online talking about how to do stuff in WP.

    Good luck!

It can be very frustrating when you are using it for the first time. But do be patient and go through the Wordpress help section if you are stuck. I am always able to find the solution when I just search through their help resources.

For me personally, I will just create one simple blog with some content and just start promoting it. Don't forget that you can always edit your website along the way. Don't make the mistake of trying to get the website perfect.

i can't figure what blog platform easier then wordpress, even my brother who don't know how to build a blog said that wordpress is so easy.

Try this.. when you do something, don't keep saying to your self this is hard, that is hard, i can't do this, i can't do that, etc..

If you think you can't then you can't.. just as simple as that...

try to change your question around your problem... Try to ask you self "how".. then you will start to search for a solution...

    You're not alone.

I gave up on WordPress years ago, after a long struggle which involved getting help and support, reading the whole of "Blogging For Dummies" and "WordPress For Dummies" and so on.

For me, the main disadvantages of WordPress are ...

    1. Very difficult to learn to use well, compared with most of its competitors

    2. Requires regular updating and (as can be seen from thread discussions here) the updates can cause significant compatibility and other problems

    3. Plug-ins can be a real resource-hog but it seems you can't do a lot without them

    4. There are obviously some common speed issues which can be circumvented only by "special knowledge/experience"

    5. Unless you spend real money and/or are a masterful user, the end result tends to look "like WordPress" (i.e. it's not necessarily ideal for someone who "wants something a bit different")

    6. As can be seen from many of the thread discussions here, wanting to change/customize things (which in other CMS's would be trivial and take only seconds) can turn out to be hugely complicated and requiring a deep understanding of something called "CSS" (whatever the hell that is) and a PhD in mechanical engineering

    7. Obvious security issues and hacking problems, maybe partly just because it's so widely used that it's the one the hackers are brought up on, which again (you guessed it) can be circumvented only with some real inconvenience and by "special knowledge/experience"

    Yes.

If you don't want made-from-raw-HTML sites, I think Weebly Pro is good, and underrated, and (contrary to what many people say about it, presumably thinking of their "free service" and wrongly imagining that it's "like Blogger") it's also a good and reliable host. I'm very impressed with what I see of Squarespace, too, though I haven't yet quite plucked up the courage to try it, myself. Maybe next time ... (it's obviously a whole lot easier than WordPress and I have it on good authority that it's also far more secure, overall). There are others, too.

This forum is full of thread after thread after thread in which Warriors with far greater technical skills and experience than I'll ever have run into apparently insuperable problems with WordPress in everyday situations involving the simplest things which I know that even an ignoramus like me can resolve on her own sites in 2 minutes.

And those threads get more and more complicated and surreal and bizarre, with misunderstanding increasingly heaped upon misinformation, until some true expert like Anne Pottinger or Istvan Horvath puts in a special guest appearance with the correct answer and settles the issue (albeit sometimes with great patience and over a long series of related posts).

I can't begin to tell you how many threads I've read here which make me remind myself how very glad I am that, after so much trial and error, I decided not to use WordPress after all. I'm "just saying" ...

I'm with Alexa on this one...I think the "easy" part of WP is an exaggeration. It runs on PHP, which means if you don't have an IT background, you are at the mercy of having to find a "plugin" for even the most simple of things. That can get old really fast. Of course the coders love WP because they simply love the challenge of conquering anything that is horribly complicated (like PHP). I've quit using WP and gone back to the way I started building sites - html and Dreamweaver. I couldn't be happier.

I have some HTML sites, yes - but I outsourced/commissioned them; I didn't make them myself. The sites I make myself are very easy, straightforward ones at places like TypePad, Weebly Pro, and so on.

All of my "money" sites are html coded in Dreamweaver; I'm oldschool. They've done very well for me. I like being able to quickly set up tables and put stuff exactly where I want it. WP is great for blogs and auto-formatted stuff, but when money's on the line, all my main sites are handcoded in DW. And all my product launch sites, and the rest. WP has it's place, it's not the only way to make sites.

What exactly are you having difficulty with?
I build a lot of sites & tend to keep plugins to the minimum.
As others say - there can be issues if plugins are not kept updated.

I think you should quit using Wordpress for now because everything will not work out of the box. Wordpress is also no exception!

You must take sometimes to learn the basic as well as the features that Wordpress has to provide to you.

It seems that you are having many trouble to work with Wordpress. Because you're new to it and want it to work like a charm as you desired, I think Wordpress is not a good choice for you.

Even if you want to build a plain Html/Css sites, you need to know those coding technologies. Furthermore, you must know PHP or similar languages in order to create a dynamic site.

Based on you current posts here and here, I could see that you problem were not solved because you were giving less information for another forumers to follow up.
In addition, it seems to be the problem with CSS.

Furthermore, Wordpress has a broad community to help as well as tutorials. One thing to ask for support if you bought the premium themes, it should be directed to the theme's author. Another broad community support is Wordpress itself here.

Wordpress is really easy to use in my opinion compared to the rest of CMS's out there, but that might just be me. If you're stuck then you can find some good tutorials on Youtube and other sites for free. There will be a tutorial for whatever part you are stuck with, there are so many out there.

was kinda frustrated w it at first, particularly when hearing every other person rave about how easy it is to use, and it took 3-4 months to get halfway decent w it. actually met w a tutor for a few hours (hired off craigslist for $30) and they explained the basics, where things were, how to navigate, etc. once i started to get somewhat proficient it became easier and easier to build out more complicated and better looking sites. by 6-8 months in i started finding it fairly simple and quick and was happy i spent a little time figuring it out. that was about 2 yrs ago.

i started out initially by building html sites, my first 20 or so were done like that. although i was decent at it, because of what i'm able to do w wp and the speed i'm able to do it i won't go back to that unless i need something very specific that i can't find a wp template for...a prob i haven't run into yet. every so often however i'll want something done i can't figure out, for that i hire a coder. i have 2 i've used several times, found them on fiverr and the jobs typically cost $5-20 and for that i can get just about anything i want done.

my advice, if u absolutely hate it then try another platform. as mentioned already, weebly pro is one. (fyi, around the time i was first considering wp i tried weebly and didn't really like it, but that's just my experience, many people like it.) but if u can get through the learning curve w wp, which isn't really as hard as it seems initially, u can quickly and easily make and modify sites that look great and have a lot of functionality. wp takes some getting used to there's no question about it, and alexa raises some good points for why to think twice about using it. that being said, i'm sticking w it for the foreseeable future as it easily does everything i need and more.

WordPress is probably one of the easiest. If need be, get some coaching around your area or use tutorials from YouTube. Don't even think about using html, php, dreamweaver sites if before giving WordPress a good go.

I don't think any platform is 'easy' if you are just starting out. I didn't have a single clue about building a website when I first started my Wordpress site. But I slowly worked on it month by month (as a static site, not a blog), customized it gradually along the way, and made every single mistake it was possible to make. It now provides me with a good living, and you wouldn't recognize it as a Wordpress site. Trust me, there isn't a single problem that there isn't a solution to if you dig deep enough into Google.
