No. It's that simple lol. It would definitely be an awesome statistic to find out, but nobody would be able to give a definitive answer to that.

The facts are very interesting. One I loved the most was 5th one which basically tell you that more educated you are less chance of becoming millionaire you have. Great that I am just Graduate and not Phd holder.

    It's impossible to know.

I really wouldn't worry about it either. There would be a lot more IM millionaires if more people took action and persisted at it.

There's no limit to how many there can be. It's there for the taking for anyone who wants it bad enough.

I've often seen the 3% success rate thrown around, but I actually think that is quite generous! WillR is absolutely right! Either you can take the opportunities seriously and work them or let it slip by to the next person. It's not knowing how to do something right off the bat, it's about doing something on a regular consistent basis...results will follow.

And some estimates are lower - could be as high as 97% of people fail. That leaves the 3% who are enjoying some measure of success. My own thinking says that perhaps 20% of the 3% might make it i.e. 0.6% of people who try.

Not very scientific, I know, but that's my best guess.

Good answer, I think. Whether it's a "silly question" (as some people seem to think) or not, it's the kind of thing I wonder about and enjoy trying to estimate. I thought Will's answer above was a good one, anyway.

I "work it out" (i.e. guess it!) in a different way from Will, and my guess is a little lower, around 0.3 - 0.4%. I mean that as "0.3/0.4% of the people who actually try to make a living from it", rather than "0.3/0.4% of the people who "try a bit of internet marketing". So I'm a little less optimistic than Will, I think.

The point about lack of definition of "millionaire" is correct but perhaps a little pedantic, in a conversation of this theoretical/gossipy nature: defining it loosely in US$ ("the currency of the internet") as "people who make $1,000,000+ profit over a few years" - or something broadly similar - is perfectly adequate and reasonable for this kind of casual conversation, whether that technically makes them millionares or not. :p

I would imagine a very small percentage of people who try to make money online (I guess that's the definition of Internet Marketers?) actually become Millionaires.

But it's not really worth focusing on what other people do. Just focus on yourself and maintaining the momentum to keep moving your business forward.

Its been reported that 2% of all affiliates are responsible for 90% of all affiliate program sales.

That will give you an idea.

Yes, I remember seeing this somewhere before. Can't really remember where it was reported.
I agree with this as I find that it is not easy to make a decent amount, if any, from IM, even with the advice of experienced IM mentors and fellow WFers.

As someone who is starting out, I was initially attracted by the idea of how potentially easy it is to earn some extra income using affiliate marketing through the Internet. However, after going through the process for the past few months, I realize how difficult it can be. The process of building a subscriber list, knowing what products your subscribers want (which may not be what you think they want), searching for these product offers, getting approval to promote these offers, opening of the emails by the subscribers, clicking the offer and buying the product before one can make any sale is difficult. Most of the time, when sales are not made, we get discouraged and give up.

I like the response from this WFer. I think, especially as a newbie, it is important to be focused and not 'jump from one bandwagon to another' as and when there seems to be some quick methods to earn money through IM. Having a passion in whatever you do in IM is crucial in sustaining your efforts to continue despite failures.

Is 5% "only"? I think it would be great if really 5 from 100 peoples, starting their IM carrier could become millionaires.

You're right, 5 out of a 100 people is pretty good, the term was make it though so I guess that means make a living rather than becoming a millionaire?

As long as I'm part of the 5% I don't really mind

My guess would be much lower than 3%. Although millions of people enter thinking it to be very easy. Forget about making millions very few even manage to earn a respectable income to quit their job.

    How can we know?

I assume it's very low. Lower than 1%. The percentage of people who generate a million in sales is probably higher but there's a big difference between doing that and netting 1 million.

I wouldn't expect a tidy sentence in answer to that question even if anyone were to step forth.

You're likely to find that anyone who has made a considerable amount of money has done so via various income streams.

Your tasks then, would be to look into ways to generate much less via methods that are actively promoted here on the forum, which, as a collective, might add up to such an amount.

Depends on how you define "millionaire", and depends on how you define "internet marketer". Do you mean a million in sales, or in profit? And if you mean profit, do assets count (house, cars, stocks & bonds, etc), or do you mean a mil in cold hard cash?

And by "internet marketer", are you including everyone who has ever sold anything via Amazon, Ebay, Craigslist, etc.? (because technically, they are all marketing something on the internet). Or are you referring only to the "full timers" who market their own products or services, and/or who do "affiliate" marketing, via their own websites?

And as Daniel mentioned, whose currency are we going by?

Either way you slice it, I'd say the percentage of people who have made 7 figures in US dollars profit from some form of internet marketing is well under 1%. Of course, the actual figure would depend on all the variables mentioned above.

    I've got the definitive answer --> 0.000000001%

That's a stupid question to ask because its no different than the general distribution of wealth in offline marketing. Its some really small decimal.

But it doesn't have any effect on you, nor does it change your chance of success.

Boston Consulting estimated 5.1 million households with a net worth of $1million in 2011. That came out to be 1.6% of the population at the time. I'd say IM millionaires are more along the lines of a lightning strike.

I think this generation's marketers are very promising. A lot of them will probably end up rich thanks to their experience, all the while everyone who doesn't know what internet marketing entails is just throwing money at them.

You just have to spend your time effectively and follow your detailed business plan to ensure a comfortable ROI. Those who do that might get rich.

I think that 90 % of internet marketers who make 900.000 would spend most on champagne and a nice car before they reached the million. Easy comes, easy goes.

Still you have to remember that most people in internet marketing are working full time as an employee for a small company website or a local newspaper. Sure you can save from your sallary, but very few will become a millionair

I would say like 3% but that figure could be higher not sure. An interesting thing though is that about 97% of people that try and start an offline business fail but about 83% of franchises succeed staggering figure. So looks like buying franchises are the way to go.

So many chase being millionaires when its unrealistic. Most millionaires were born into their money. I'd just be happy to earn 1500 to 2000 a month with IMing as an extra stream of income.

yeah I think that the stats are like, 90 percent of the people who buy products to learn how to make money online, the newbies, either give up or don't take any serious action at all. Or they may try and dabble in it, fail at making money, and go back to what they were doing before, usually a regular job.

Now out of the other 10 percent that actually make money, I'd say 1 percent of those people, even make any serious money to quit their jobs.

So the folks that are millionaires making money online, versus those that try and make money online and grind out a few sales, are very few and far between. Maybe half of a percent.

As others have said, this is a very complex question. Are we talking about total assets or cash on hand? Are we including income from other sources? How do we define internet marketer?

I assume you are asking this question because you want to judge how easily you can become a millionaire from internet marketing. The resounding answer from this thread is not easily at all. However, take it one step at a time. If you can make a single dollar online, you increase your chances many fold (maybe from .00001% to .3%). If you can make a $100 in a week, your chances go up again (maybe from .3% to 1%). Really, once you have a successful business model you just need to scale up until you reach your goal.

Steve Pavlina had a really great blog post about this very question, a few years back. It's completely the wrong mindset to worry about what percentage of people make it, because the underlying assumption is that it's all about luck. The success rate has nothing to do with your personal likelihood of success.

It's probably true that over 90% of internet marketers are not very successful...but that's because over 90% of internet marketers don't take consistent, focused action and learn from their mistakes. You just need to have confidence that as long as you consistently take action and work intelligently, you'll eventually make it.

not even referring to what % become millionaires, but regarding what % actually "make it" online, i've always been aware it's very low but never used it as an indicator of how i might do. reason is simple, the barrier to entry for im is almost nonexistent, all it really takes to get started is an internet connection. w that alone almost anyone can call themselves an "internet marketer" but that doesn't mean they are, at least not a successful one by any measure.

so many people flock to this industry thinking they're gonna make a quick buck or even a living, but relatively few really go though a solid learning process to help ensure they do. being at this for several yrs, as have many others here, our chances of success are dramatically higher than the multitude who are brand new, those who only stay for a short while before giving up, and those who never treat it as a real business.

there's no magic formula, at least not one i've found, but taking ur im education serious and staying the course on one area long enough to see it through lends itself to a much higher chance of success than might be indicated by some dubious statistic floating around.

Id say the statistics are ever changing. Becoming a millionaire online has nothing to do with luck. Its all about work ethic.

the question should be phrased as - " how many people who, bust their ass night and day wanting nothing more than to become a millionaire, make it? "

The worlds becoming a harder place to live in, the number of internet entrepreneurs are on the rise, marketing intelligence is on the rise, Id say the number is going to be on a steady increase as it has been over the last little while.
