First Day Here on WF - Ready to WORK!

Hey guys! After YEARS of hearing about IM, I have finally decided to start! My goal here is not to make a living, but supplement myself while I am still in school.

So, based on my past memory, I decided to come to what I remembered as the meeting place of the best IM guys around, the Warrior Forums.

Glad to finally join the club.

One problem though, I really don't know where to start. I would like to start with as little upfront investment as possible and reinvest profits back into the business. I thought about Amazon. I think that's what I'll do. I had a CB account but I don't think I could live with myself if there was any doubt that I had ripped anyone off. (NOT saying that ebooks are ripoffs, but I have been ripped off before and if I have not owned the product then I cannot "review" it. I am new so give me a break if i misunderstand this concept)

So, how should I begin? Should I just spend the last 2 weeks of summer attacking (reading) all the info on this forum?

Also please, please don't try to sell me an ebook or a system. I just can't right now. (student here!) If I make some money then I probably will for research and I'll be glad to buy through your links if it's actually good but please not now.

On a side note, anyone remember Profit Lance? So much for lifetime membership.....

Thank you!

    Hi Nick,

Welcome! This place is definitely a gold mine if used correctly...

First - what I would do is spend a little time looking at the different business models. Find out which one you think fits you and start there.

Once you decide on a business model - you will have to be disciplined. You will have to force yourself to not jump on the bandwagon of the next shiny object that comes by.

If you make a commitment to yourself to stick to one business model and work it diligently for at least 6 months then you should have success.

For me - I chose list building as my business model - but that's not the "cheapest" model to get started in. Most folks will start with an Amazon or Adsense site.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.

    Cheers,
    Coby

@NickGives - There is nothing stopping you from purchasing the Clickbank product or showing you are a serious 'kick ass' bona fide affiliate and getting a review copy. If I were you I would go straight for the jugular and start building a list. Building an adsense site etc is fine as an ancillary income stream and I'm not advising you against doing that, but it should not (in my opinion) be your primary focus. Good luck!

That is very important for you to read and gain more knowledge and also to see what others are doing and what they are talking about. Look at the pros and cons of each and everything. I am sure after 2 weeks of reading and observing you would have gained much knowledge to plan yourself ahead.

Be sure to decide what you are best at before you pick which direction you want to go. Having an IT background myself, I found myself trying to continue being a jackie of all trades in the IM world and all that did was slow down the learning I needed to do for the business I eventually decided to take serious and learn inside out. Basically, don't go after the shiny objects or believe the unlimited promises made in IM. Read everything on marketing the business you choose and all the best. I hope you keep us posted on your business, I'm sure you will enjoy great success!

Your goal should be to make a living. If it happens, great. If not and you fall short, then you will likely have enough income to supplement yourself.

    As the old saying goes...

You're thinking right that you need to make money first. There are systems like the one I use that allows you to make money without money upfront. But eventually, you'll want to invest back into the business to really scale things up.

When I was in school, I took the opposite approach and tried to buy everything out there, thinking that would bring success. That's the wrong approach.

The right approach is to start with something focused you can follow and implement right away using all free methods. Then increase from there.

There are systems a-plenty out there that can help you learn how to make money online, you'll find no shortage of them here. One key takeaway from what others have written is once you find a system stick with it, focus on it, and work it consistently and persistently until you've found success with it. You'll likely not make a fortune by the weekend but then again you've said that's not what you're looking for so you won't be disappointed.

One system that I have worked and had some success with is finding a low competition niche to build a blog around, research and write great articles for the site, post your articles on a frequent basis for a couple of months until you rank for some long tail keywords, and then monetize the site with Adsense and/or Amazon Affiliate product links.

If you Google "public niche site project" and click on one of the top links you'll come to a blog by Spencer Haws and he goes step by step how he created a site just like this. The training's free and might be a great place for you to start.

Another avenue you might want to go with is challenge.co. This is free training given by Ed Dale and his partners that can get you started down the path to building an online business. The training is free and very good with your goal being to make your first dollar online. Granted, that's not going to set you up financially but the principles they teach will likely set you up for success going forward. You can go to the site and listen to Ed tell you what the challenge is about and see if it's for you.

I hope this helps you move forward with your goal of making money online. Best of luck!

    Jon.

If you have any services that you can offer to the community, you can start off by selling your services to help you get some money coming in. Once I have set a side a budget that I am prepared to invest in my online business, I will start to do research on which business model that I will focus on.

The key is to have the discipline to stick to it once you have decided on the system that you will be follow. Most people fail simply because they keep jumping from system after another systems looking for the magic pill. The fact is that the magic pill do not exist.

      WOW! Wealth of information!

Thanks to all that have posted so far! I have seen some threads on WF that have scared me with the amount of "Buy this! It's amazing! Oh and buy this! And buy this ebook and this magic automated do-no-work ever machine too while you're at it!" Which was honestly the reason I haven't joined before.

But not here, just good, honest, very helpful information. Thanks!

I now realize that I do not need to be in this (just) for the money. I need to do something I enjoy or I will hate it. (That alone is worth a million bucks)

MaxFactor - Thanks for the links. For another newbie viewing this thread later, they were really good, and the "I am a newbie, please help" led me to something that looks awesome, the 30 day challenge.

Ok so new current planned to do list: (tell me what you think)

      1. Spend the next 2 weeks researching the heck out of my interests in IM. Also pick out a niche(s).

      2. Begin work. Possibly do "The 30 Day Challenge" http://www.warriorforum.com/member-c...-no-money.html Which is a start with no money and reinvest profits to build type system.

      3. After the first month, continue the "daily work" and continue research. Mabye look into this "War Room" I have heard all about.

      While I'm at it:
      Aim high and try hard.

Also, I think I already have a niche picked out! Small amount of competitors but tons of potential. It's not a "update blog every single day" type. Plus I've been involved in the community for years and do it anyway!

Try making some gigs on fiverr, it may take a while to get your foot in the door, but you'll get a feel for what kind of services you can provide efficiently and which ones you don't like to perform.

I don't know...I think affiliate marketing can make some serious bank, but there is a certain comfort in knowing you can market your own abilities, if you can do that...you'll never go broke

    Hi Nick!

Plenty of people have given you advice on what to do already but just thought I'd share this -

The warrior forum is an amazing place for free information but don't go reading so much that you get overwhelmed. SO many people do this and it knocks them back a step or two!

    Hope that helps!

Fiverr was what I figured I would be using to generate some capital.

Actually I got this name from an email that I originally created for spam, but I never did anything like that so now I use it for real. Thanks!

Actually the goal will be to get through school (and then life) with no debt at all. It won't kill me to sacrifice, debt will.

Hmmmm... Alot to consider, plenty of fun looking paths. Better hit the books.... or forums...

The most important thing I ever learnt about IM is that it is exactly like a brick-and-mortar business.

If you don't put in sickeningly hard work, you will not see results at all.

Similarly to real life businesses, you would
    1) Create products and sell them by SEO/advertising/SMM/affiliate marketing
    2) Pick a product from Clickbank/Amazon/etc. and sell them (affiliate marketing = 'reselling online')

Best of luck. I'm a student too

How would you show a seller that you are a good affiliate and get a trail copy to review and work with first? Once again, worried about scamming people with clickbank.
