Important question regarding downtime!

Hey,

I have a website which was on Google number 10 a week ago for a competitive key phrase. Now, because my previous hosting was crap, the website suffered a downtime of 3 days I think.. when I was done changing the services, my website did not show up anywhere in the results for Google, Yahoo and MSN! What is going on?

Can you tell me how to remedy this or how much time it will take to come back up.

Thanks!

They are search engines the key phrase you used was probably a good one that others caught on to, 3 days down time will kill you. These search engines recognize the most popular sites with a related pharse. And if you're only registering with google, yahoo and msn you're behind the rest of the pack.

My suggestion is find every search engine and social network you can find and work hard on getting your site back on top. If thats too much work for you i suggest you find another keyphrase and pray you get lucky and end up on the top of search engines

    Or...

Could just be the engines couldnt find you so they decided to hold off showing you for a bit. Could you perhaps refresh some content on your site and ping it, social bookmark again.

You'll shouldn't take that long to reappear where you used to be ranked. The fact that you were ranked before shows you had/have good content plus whatever backlinks you had then were good enough then.

Keep cool, I'm sure it'll be fine again.

I dont understand.. so am I in for such a huge penalty because of the downtime that i have to change my keyphrases? I am thoroughly confused now..

I can submit a sitemap but does that really help?

Please let me know if you guys have had an experience like this and you were able to bring your website back up.

I have enough links going to the website to be placed in number 10.

Any help would be deeply appreciated.

Yasir, the sitemap suggestion only implies that the SEs have "lost" you for the moment. You're just gonna help them find you back.

If it were me, I would do some quick content refreshing and social bookmarking to alert the Google spiders and prompt them to crawl your site again. They'll be able to compare your pages with their database of what they remembered about your site. They'll probably re-instate you soon after that, say a few days to a week's time.

I also agree I wouldnt go as far as deleting your sitemap as one said. How I would handle this is I would edit my site map. Go to your sitemap.xml or html file you are currently using. You can then edit modified date socialbookmark to a number of sites then ping the heck out of it with Blog and ping | Pingoat PingMyBlog.com Ping-o-Matic! also go and ping google yahoo msn directly with there pinging service. This should only take you a few hours to get relisted for your set of key words you will also notice if you go to googles webmaster tools you will get a huge spike on your crawl stats. If not do all of this again till you get that spike. Becarful not to get ping black listed though.

    Hi YasirYar:

Sorry you had the situation with the web host. Many of us went through the same horror. When my first book came out on the Jefferson Airplane the web host (rated number 2 then, a true joke) had issues for about 1.5 days and a few times after.

Don't get dejected. The fact you had great results shows you are cognizant of how to achieve results. Use your strengths and advice from the other fine Warriors and you'll be back on top soon.

    Good luck.
