Fiverr Questions and Concerns

Greetings,

I have a few questions about fiverr. I have an English degree and I'm considering selling services writing 400 word, SEO optimized articles. Of course, for $5. Anyway, I've been looking through the competition and I've noticed a few things that I question. For one, there are people who are willing to write two 500 word articles for $5... and yet they have less completed sales that someone who will only write 400. Why? This confuses me. If you're wanting the best value, why go to the person who will only write 400 when both sellers have the same five star rating?

I'm assuming it has to do with the individual's ability to market their services. With that being said, is there anyone on here who has had success on Fiverr? If so, what are some of the marketing tactics you employed to reach an interested audience?

Thanks as always,

Jonathan Howard

It boils down to QUALITY and repeat orders. My writing gigs at Fiverr get lots of repeat customers and this increases the number of thumbs up/positive reviews. Some writers on Fiverr really push their gigs hard at forums, mailing lists, blogs, you name it. That's why some already have over 1200 reviews while those offering 2 x 500 or 3 x 500 words get less reviews. There are many ways to boost your Fiverr volume. You can only learn them as you get orders and deal with customers' needs.

Like marketing the same service over and over? Or getting the same customers back again?

      Edit:
Ok, I see the rest of your post there. Thanks, I'll definitely take that into consideration.

As in swinging for the fences everytime you get an order and OVER DELIVERING. Not only will many of them order again, they will tell their friends. For a long time I was getting Christian orders because I did several Christian articles which the client simply fell in love with. After that, I was getting product description work for Christian t-shirts, Christian youth essays, etc etc. The same thing happened with Filipino-related topics when I did several essays on Filipina-white male pairings.

Writing on Fiverr is fun. If you consider researching and writing as forms of traveling, you'll love the volume Fiverr can give you. That's the main reason I write. The money is secondary-although it does pay the bills

Yeah I love to write and probably do more of it for free than I should. Bills do take priority sometimes. I've considered selling freelance services for a long time. I would love to just write 8 hours a day for a living.

      Yeah.

Writeaway has been offering a writing gig on fiverr for quite sometime now.

I posted a gig awhile ago and I was making a few sales every week. It was nice having some extra work. Unfortunately, I went out of town for a couple days and since my gig's max delivery time was set to two days; I got a order but was unable to deliver so the client gave me a bad rating. And the bad rating discouraged people from collecting my gig and it pretty much died and was sent to the fiverr gig underworld. I also didn't market it at all.

Fiverr can be great. Just make sure to set your gig's max delivery time to like 3-5 days and advertise it as often as you can.

Just remember, you don't really get paid 5$. Fiverr takes 1$ and Paypal takes some also. After all the fees you end up with something like 3.60$. Not the best rate for writers. I recommend Fiverr though. It does not take long to write a 400 word article.

      Good luck!

You hit the nail on the hammer there if the 2 articles are not quality articles but the one 400 words article has more thought and quality put into it I would go for the 1 article over the 2 that are not so good. One of the things to consider is also repeat orders. The Fiverr gig for 1 order might have a lot of repeat customers while the 2 articles may have new customers but not so many repeat customers. SO at the end of the day they both work out to the same number of people and ratings but one was alot of repeats that's how come they can both have the same ratings.

Build your profile first, may be try to give bonus like 2x400 words with $5. I know this is very low price but when you get enough rank, you may reduce it to 400 words/$5. Some client want cheap article with medium quality, but some need good quality article, that why you can see some sellers offer less words have more customers.
But with my experience, I never order guy with a lot of order at same time, I sure he will outsource somewhere, and enjoy as middle man .

Thanks for the advice. It's encouraging! Sure, I could write 2 for $5 for a while. I do it practically for free now anyway hahaha

        Hi Jonathan,

With a degree in English, you certainly don't want to be competing in a 2 articles for $5 marketplace. One decent and well written article for $5 is cheap enough and if you write well and are consistent then, you'll not only get orders, but repeats.

        Things to do.................

        1. Get your Fiverr profile set up and tell people you have a degree in English and what you'll do for them in your description.

        2. Get a video done of your service, as Fiverr like people who have videos with their gigs. There are a few excellent video services on this platform.

        3. Ask Fiverr admin to promote or even feature your new article gig. They are likely to do that if you have a video with your new gig.

        4. If you get promoted on the first page of your category then, you're likely to get a few orders.

The initial launch is quite important and if you get a boost with Fiverr then, the orders should follow. It's up to you from there how you want to progress and you'll certainly get repeats if you do a good job. Your main aim is to be able to do a requested 400 word article in less than half an hour or you'll be working for less than the minimum wage and you don't want to do that especially with an English degree (you owe it to yourself).

I knew of a chap on Fiverr who wrote articles a couple of years back and was getting regular orders, but he eventually burnt himself out through boredom, as the work can become tedious and some people are quite demanding for their $5 worth.

What should you say in a video? Like present your skills, previous gigs, references...

You may be able to take a few orders - but you have to be careful. What happens when you get 15 orders every day for a week straight?

When you overdeliver, you want to provide more than what they think they will be getting. For example, offering to do 1 article for $5 but then sending them a bonus one for free. By doing that you impress them, but aren't expected to do it in case you get behind.

Heey, you have the same name as me :p

    ontopic:
The more fiverr orders you have the more orders you will get.

Or you need a super unique fiverr gig.

I am one of the ones that offers 2 x 500 words (in fact, I believe I am the most popular writer on Fiverr who has that particular deal and who doesn't outsource). The reason why I draw in so many sales isn't because of the deal, but the quality of the writing. In fact, more of my sales are for $10 for 500 words (special within 24 hours) as opposed to the standard gig! Fiverr is all about repeat business. The only way in which you are going to get a LOT of feedback is by offering a high quality service. I think I have over 2,000 completed order, but about 200 or so customers which 'repeat' business with me.

Reason why I offer such a cheap deal is because I love writing. Writing on Fiverr for me isn't about the money it brings in. It is instead learning about new topics and writing in slightly different styles to what I normally do when people pay more money elsewhere. I can experiment a lot with my writing here and I love that. I wouldn't recommend this sort of deal if you are the type of person that gets stressed easily. The orders can pile up rather fast if you are not careful.

I've used multiple writers at fiverr and for me it's not just about price. As an article buyer I take the time to discuss what I'me looking for, and if the response feels favorable, I'll go ahead and have them write an article for me. If I'm happy with the first purchase I may get additional submissions.

Iv'e paid $5.00 for 600 words, I've paid $10.00 for 500 words. If I find the correct writer for a particular project I don't generally haggle over price. I believe if a writer feels they are getting cheated, you won't get their best work.

My choices of who I would work with on fiverr have typically been based on how they responded to my inquiries. I have dozens of boiler plate responses in my inbox that say things like "I can do that cheap" or "I will write two for one" or "whatever" and they really have no idea what I'm looking for... they don't even ask.

If a writer sends a response asking for more details about the project, they have just beat out 80% of the field, at which point I copy/paste an in depth description as a follow up. After that it's all about the response. There may be
      a 1500 word collaboration (or more) discussing a a 500 word article... that's how I do it.

I'm sure there is a market for lots of words at the cheapest price, but that's not where I would suggest you invest yourself. $5.00 for 500 well written words is plenty cheap enough. I don't believe you will have to write too many articles before you will agree with this. - Good Luck!

no matter what you are doing fiverr is really great if you really see it as one lol. I started some 17 days ago and got 3 orders by contacting buyers inside fiverr. There are simple techniques you can learn and implement which will bring you sales autmatically. Try to think outside the box

You're not allowed to contact buyers now unless it is through the 'request' system. If the buyer reports you, you will lose a level/affect your chances of gaining levels.

  • I've made just under $10,000 writing articles on Fiverr. In the last 3 months I've put almost all my gigs on hold because I've found that it is much easier to make real money writing for better clients on places like eLance, or even finding clients right here on WF.

The bottom line is the higher quality someone's writing is, the more people will end up using them repeatedly. I get sales at 100 words for $5. I see other people offering 1000 for the same $5. Naturally, my quality will be much higher than the person offering 10x more words for the same price.

Not necessarily. There is a higher perceived quality there, but it doesn't always mean that the quality is higher just because you offer less for the money. I know some pretty amazing Fiverr writers (I am not including myself in that) that offer 1,000 words for $5.00 who score a lot of repeat clients.

Thanks! This is something I'm definitely considering for the future. I just moved to Cincinnati where I'm looking for a career in writing. I was laid off from my teaching gig in Ky and I'm currently drawing unemployment. Therefore, I can't really do any freelancing without my unemployment being unaffected while I look for work. It kind of sucks, but it is what it is. If I find work, or something happens to my unemployment, this is an option I will consider for secondary income, or to just pay the bills! lol Thanks a ton for the advice guys.

You could also consider joining sites such as elance and textbroker. Then you won't have all your eggs in one basket.

With textbroker you have the opportunity of browsing through a list of articles that are required and choosing one that you want to write. In other words you don't have to market yourself.

Rework until they are happy, then offer a full refund for the 'alleged' inconvenience once they've withdrawn the negative review.

I'm a level 2 fiverr seller that does articles. I started out offering 600 word articles for 5$ but as I got higher levels and more orders I eventually moved to 300 for 5$ and added the gig extras for higher pay for the higher word counts, worked like a charm. Did the same with delivery time, started with faster turn around when I got too many articles to handle at that speed I moved it up, I move it back down when I have less orders etc...
