HEy warriors. First off let me apologize in advance when you hit yourself over the head for not thinking of this earlier.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------- Its finally time to NOT use any super keyword tools or some magic formula. The hottest niches are located right in front of your doorstep. The NEWSPAPER Kevin Lams suggestion : Magazines. Time, Newsweek, etc etc. Journalists make articles to make people buy the newspaper right? So would they write about farming tools? No they go for the hottest thing everyone is interested in. Let others do the work for you. Of course im not saying to disregard keyword tools but factor in your own offline keyword tools aswell. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Feel free to hit your head

Good one! Maybe checking out the online papers and the advertisements might be a cool idea as well, obviously the advertisers are making money if they are putting big ads up. Thanks for the post.

Not bad, but I'll stick with magazines. It's more business-to-customer oriented and would hit up on the trends better than the newspaper.

Personally, i prefer the Google Hot Trends tool than offline newspapers. Gives me a general idea of what Americans are searching for.

Yep Lady NaNa dont disregard your own keyword tools aswell. Personally i combine them both and it has saved me countless hours cause i dont have to think of a niche and i can just use my tool to make sure that the #s fit.

Not only that, but look at the advertisement as well, and you can come up with a lot of recommendation for those people. low competition keywords etc.
But they do talk about HOT issues so stay on top of it! |

Another reason I prefer magazines more is because they spend a lot more money on researching than newspaper. Think about how much people have to pay to get an ad in magazines and then think about how much people have to pay to get an ad in a newspaper. It is a significant difference. Newspaper has its place in the things to consider, but I will pick up a new magazine before I pick up the newspaper for marketing/product ideas.

Sometimes you can't see the forest for the trees. I think both newspapers and magazines are a great idea. Cheers, Calvin |

Also, go to your local book store, like Borders or Barnes & Nobles here in the US. Pay attention to the first books you see that are at eye level as you walk in. Those are all hot niches.

Yes the Newspaper is a great source to find a niche topic. And if you want something hot off the press, why not try the morning TV News programs. Magazines are also a great source, you can get free copies over the net or go to your local library and check out back issues. Magazines are also great for content.

This is a great suggestion!
I think a lot of people call this trend marketing and I personally have made a nice little profit off of it. A friend of mine in Colorado put together a one-page website to capitalize on the recent swine flu hysteria. You can find it at: Do You Have The Swine Flu? Watching the newspapers or online news or whatever news source you want is a great way to figure out what's really popular right now and then capitalize on it. |

So simple yet so true!
I have to try it. and if I may add to this, I think it will be smart to maybe start reading some foreign newspapers (those you can actually understand) to see trends around the globe Good luck to us all, MM |

Digg is a good place to find what the hottest news is at the moment in time. The Digg count tells you how many people liked the article. The more counts the better.
You can then use this to your advantge in 2 ways...for finding good content and generating ideas for a great headline. People tend to read this stuff because of the attention pulling headline first, content second. If you are struggling to find content this is one of the places to visit. Take exerts from the articles and use as a talking point in your blogs or when emailing your list. The most important thing out of this exercise is to see if people digg your niche information. |

The magazines right by the cashier are really good for ideas just from headlines alone. Their editors know you got a shopping cart, a crying baby, a cell phone in your ear, and they write headlines designed to make you stop what you are doing and take notice.
Many of those headlines can easily be made right into a domain name. They are usually benefit driven, they tap into emotions, strong appeal, and usually short and catchy. |

newspaper isn't all that great.... more like newspaper stands with all those magazines is what you want to go after, plus you get a good idea of how to market the product too, cos it's already on the magazines front cover

all good advice guys.
myself - i am very fond of the yellow pages. if you were going to pay to put your business into the yellow pages wouldnt you choose the most popular keyword? and wouldnt you know your business? and is the yellow page not supplied with a built in 80 year history? so you go and count the ads within a category. er, it does not always work. some businesses are meant to be offline, ie a breakers yard. |

It doesnt hurt to use both of course. But i use newspapers just that its supposed to appeal to everyone who reads in all aspects of live. Not just bridal magazines or gaming magazines which only appeal to the select few who are into those. Newspapers are to sell to the general majority which is why i go to them first.
Like i said use both magazines and newspapers and web reasources. Im not forcing you to choose your loyalty over one |

Cool idea, plus it shows you the size of your market depending on how many mags they run. Also, order back issues and ask for a rate card, if people are advertising in continious issues its obviously wokring for them, so there is a market. Next time, take a look at how many adds direct yuo to a website where they then make the sale.

Theres no point in using search engines. Because 100million other marketers will see the same info. Its better to use other sources rather the the main ones since its already saturated

When I get a little stir crazy I go to the book store and check out the magazine rack. Today I found a magazine that was about something that I never would have though that it would have a large audience let alone a magazine for it. What was it? Airbrush art how to.

I think the best thing to do is to try and make use of as much free stuff as possible. If I scan through all these resources and notice that people are searching for gardening shears, and the mags are advertising them as well. I'd have to say that my next niche venture would be gardening shears or something related to them. Ron

Great idea!
You can have best result with a combinaison: use your magazine for broad keyword search, then use your keyword search tools and/or google external tool to have a better idea of what is happenning in these niches online! Then plan to profit from your new hot niches! |

Here's another hot tip you can use with magazines, use the library to find a niche magazine ( Popular Mechanics, Popular Science, Brides,...) look through the ads starting with the most recent issues.
Then look through the back issues to see which ads have been in there on a consistent basis. The ads that have been in these magazines for years are selling. Not only do you have a product that is selling, you know how to structure your headline for attention. So after a day of research, you have a niche, the products that they buy, and the ad copy that they respond to. Matt |
