I've got a bit of a dilemma going here that I'd like to get some advice on.

I've been wanting to start an internet marketing/make money online blog for quite some time.

I have just found myself in a position where I also need to start a new site to offer my freelance writing services.

Should I combine them into one, or keep them separate?

I could have a freelance writing site which has an IM based blog. Or a IM site which has a section dedicated to my freelance writing services. Or just two domains.

Suggestions/opinions/thoughts?

Thanks!

I would definitely keep them separate. But I've also found that working on two things at once doesn't ever seem to work out. I always end up leaving one thing to do the other.

With all due respect if you found yourself in a position where you "need to start a new site to offer my freelance writing services" then you are not ready to start a make money online site. So there is your answer.

Yeah. The nice thing about these two items, however, is that the vast majority of the work I'll be putting into the IM project is writing. Which I do A LOT of anyway so it is really one type of work for me. I'll just be doing some of the writing for my clients, and some for my own site(s).

I see what you're saying, but the reason I need to start a new site for freelance writing isn't going to be a problem for this. It was a business move which benefited everyone involved. The only down side is it left me without a website (and also has me starting this new WF account, lol).

I have, and continue to make money online. The majority of it is from freelance writing, but I have made money from other methods as well. Which is why I want to start both of these sites at some point. If it makes sense to combine them, I'll do that now. If not, I would start the freelance writing one now and then do the IM one in a month or two when I have the time necessary to start a second site.

        Michael,
I just sent you a PM.
I own a writing site and a make money online site.

Offering your writing services is totally different than teaching someone how to make money via affiliate marketing, AdSense Publishing etc.

You will be able to position yourself and market yourself better with two separate sites.

    Good day Michael,

Two sites are always better than one.

Exact match domain names would further your PR and credibility about each individual site because you can provide consistent content and information about ONE subject or product.

Take advantage of cross linking your two sites, IE; since your free-lance writing business is already established, use that new site to promote your new venture w/ internet marketing/money site.

I wouldn't concern yourself with the ability to create and maintain 2 websites. I have over 50 (the more, the better) and have no problem maintaining. It only requires organization of your time and the drive to succeed.

    Much success to you!

I'd say two sites because placing all of your eggs in one basket so to speak, with one website, could be detrimental if that site falls in ranking, gets Google slapped, or faces other challenges.

The niche are different so obviously you can't combine them together, meanwhile it becomes difficult to manage between two different sites at a time. If you can create two categories on you web and handle it perfectly than it will be great.
