I don't do affiliate marketing, beyond the demo site for my WP plugin. The only sites I advertise are my own. You could ask the same of any service you use. ShoeMoney sued Google because one of their employees was stealing his AdWords ads.

I love statcounter for my smaller websites. It gives you live stats of your hits and also has a lot of features, with loads of different options. ANd best of all it's free.

I like to use a combination of Google Analytics and GetClicky. The great thing about GetClicky is that it's all in real-time (where GA can lag for hours).

Also Google Analytics as main and awstats to scan the server log files. Analytics filters away the bots it knows about. That might be one of the reasons it reports low stats.

I am a big fan of Google Analytics. It gives me all of the information I need and the price is ideal. "If its free, it's for me!" |

| Analytics isn't aware of bots in the first place. Only clients that execute JavaScript run Google's tracking script, which means they couldn't track search spiders and other bots if they wanted to, since they don't run JS.

Nobody uses Tracking202 or the self-hosted version, Prosper202? Maybe I should look into analytics instead.

When I get a new client I simply ask them where they saw the ad. Some see my local ads, some see my magazine ads and some have been to my website. Interestingly I get a lot of people who come to the website and then phone me, as well as people who see the offline ad, go to the site, and then email me for further info. I can adjust me ads then by changing content and placement. Ad tracking has always been all important. ST |

I have noticed a few people mention that Analytics isnt in real time. How real time do people really need. Google Analytics are updated hourly. It appears that they are a day behind when you log in but this is just a defult setting. To view you current stats, login, click "view report" on your desired domain, click on the date range to the right and select the current day. Since I focus on local geo marketing, I always like to track what time of day my traffic is visiting my site. To do this, login, click "view report" on your desired domain, click "visitors", then "visit", then under the date range to the right, there are 4 tabs, click on the first tab with the clock. If you are using Wordpress, another handy little tracker plugin is called StatPress. find it here, WordPress › StatPress Reloaded WordPress Plugins
