How long must I wait to transfer a domain?

If I buy a domain name from one registrar, how long must I wait until I transfer it to another registrar?
i.e. I buy a 99 cent domain from GoDaddy (or any other 99 cent deal) when can I transfer it to Namecheap.

6 months..That is true of all registrars, I believe.

      Thank you.
So, if I flip a domain the new owner would also have to wait the 6 months from my original purchase to change over to a new registrar, correct?

If you flip the domain, the best thing to do is just push the domain to the buyer at the same registrar where you registered it. That can be done immediately after purchasing a domain. You do not have to wait at all to push a domain to a new owner in the same registrar. All they need is an account there and there is no charge for pushing a domain.

No its not 6 months, it is 60 days and that is applicable to all the registrarer. Before transfer your domain you should confirm that the domain is at least 60 days old.

OH, Good! 60 days sounds a lot better than 6 months.

I think well meaning and helpful posters should know their facts before making statements. Without other answers I could have waited 6 months to try to transfer a domain.

Bobsstuff...I am sorry..I responded when I was half asleep:-). Lexy is correct...I do try and wait the 6 months after a hand reg to actively sell, unless I receive an offer first.

Thank you for all the help.

Alexa, I checked out "Lexy Paints" and I relly liked#5. It flows smoothly. The squares are choppy to me. I like violin music as opposed to piano music. The piano music is "choppy" or each key stikes "clinks" against my brain. Violin music is smooth and flows, like #5. As they say, "Each to his own" Or is it now, "Each to their own" ---I'm older, 70, and don't get everything PC (politically correct).

I wasn't, really ... or rather, what I said was correct but it wasn't actually relevant to what Bob needed to know. I removed my post, and I apologise for the confusion.

Thank you - that's different from all the others shown (it's an imitation Rothko rather than an imitation Mondrian like the rest).

Very good and interesting analogy; I understand completely. (I prefer piano music, though, overall, hence the preponderance of Mondrian knock-offs ).

I'm younger (23), and don't like, welcome or understand "political correctness" anyway.

Good luck transferring your domain. I used to buy ".info domains" at GoDaddy in bulk, 5 at a time to take advantage of the year's free privacy protection on orders of 5+, and then transfer them to Namecheap about 5 weeks before their expiry (I think you can't do it in the last month?). But more recently, I've just been using Namecheap and I honestly feel more comfortable paying a little more and not having to do business with GoDaddy at all. :p

That said, .info domains at Namecheap have recently gone up in price from $2.99 to about $9!

Of course, what no-one has told you, is that you have to pay to transfer a domain into Namecheap - the same fee that you would pay if you bought the domain from them in the first place. The only way to benefit from a 99c deal is to leave the domain with Godaddy.

1 month actually. I bought a domain name from GODADDY and they allowed domain transfer to hostgator after one month. Answers a lot of questions though.

All registrars are 60-days, unless you can arrange a special exception.
