Email marketing has to be connected to something - your training, your free offer, etc.

You either need a capture page or capture forms on a blog to start getting leads. That's the first part. You have to offer something compelling upfront.

Then, with follow-up messages, whether you use aweber or a different autoresponder, you need to offer real value to your subscribers. Teach them how to succeed. Keep the messages concise and informative. Keep the titles interesting.

In all, think of it as building a connection with your subscribers. As in all of marketing, get them to know, like, and trust you.

Obviously, the way you make money with this is by teaching people how to use a system you use (that makes you money) or by adding affiliate links/links to your own product within some of your emails. But always think of the selling as secondary. First, you should always want to help.

There's tons of info about building a list on warriorforum. You need an autoresponder service like Aweber or Get Response. Those are the best two in my opinion.

Basically, you need to have something that your target market wants and give it to them for free when they sign up to receive emails from you.

There's something that's completely free I use called Opt-In crusher. This shows up on the bottom of your site and people can leave their email address in exchange for whatever freebie you've given them for signing up. Just be sure that it's something that goes along well with your website, something that fits the theme of it.

Edit: By the way, it's likely that you'll get higher quality opt-ins to your list whenever you use an opt-in box or footer vs. a squeeze page. It's because they can see more of who you really are by reading your blog they're more likely to trust you. Compare that to a squeeze page where people opt-in just because the freebie looks so good, and they don't really know who you are. You'll have to work harder to gain credibility that way in the end.

To start email marketing, you will need to start building your own list and your subscribers
The best method is:

1) Choose the niche (a niche that your are pationate in, don't do the cummon mistake and choose the most profitable niche, I can tell you that (how to bet cancer) is very profitable, but do you have knowledge and experiences in this area ?)

2) Create a free repport (ebook) to give it for free to every one who will give you his email

3) Create a Squeeze Page, this page is a webpage that you will need to create to collect emails and to give this report to every one who type his email address

4) Star sending visitors to your squeeze page (I recommend paid traffic, because it's fast and lazy targeted: ppv/ppc/safe swaps/...)

5) Now, you are building a list which is interested in your niche

6) Every 3-5 days, send them an email using an autoresponder (i recommend aweber), this emails should not content promotions, but a fresh and exclusive containt to let them trust in you, you should send at least 4 or 5 emails with good content before starting promoting

There are 2 main ways to do email marketing.

1. Build your own email list and market to them. Marketing involves more than just sending promotional emails. It also includes providing free information, replying to prospects, taking surveys, etc.

2. Market to other people's lists. The best way to do this is to get other list owners to endorse you. They already have a relationship with their list. So when they say that you and your product are worthwhile, their subscribers will listen. And YOU will benefit.

If you are just starting out, this second method may be little difficult to do. But it is doable. The Directory of Ezines makes it doable.

You can find it at www.directoryofezines.com. There are hundreds of newsletter publishers with large lists of subscribers. You can collaborate with them. Or, you can send paid solo ads to their lists.

Follow these steps:

1) Sign up to Aweber .com

2) Create a squeeze page or an opt-in form

3) Place it on every page of your site

4) Drive traffic to your site, and encourage people to sign up to your newsletter

5) Add autoresponder emails into your Aweber account

6) Let the autoresponder work itself

7) Keep generating traffic and getting more leads

8) Repeat steps 4-7 everyday

Anything else is spam, imho...

Find/create a good free product, that people will love and give it them. Think about what you will send them after they sign up. You can start with solo ads on Safe Swaps and go on with ad swaps. Good luck.
P.S. Don't forget - give useful stuff to your subscribers and they will be very responsive.

3. Sign up to aweber -- then put an opt in list on your squeeze page to collect visitors email addresses.
4. Once they are on your list provide them with massive value for free, while adding your own personality into the emails to get them to know, like, and trust you
5. promote related products to the information your giving to help improve their lives.
6. Continue generating traffic to your site, try to keep your current subscribers active by always giving free value, promote other products or create your own.
