To add to that, Google alerts aren't going to monitor all forum activity for you. You have to be very specific about phrases you want to monitor. But in my opinion, that is better. Then you're only seeing things relevant to you.

Then, I think you should hire someone, a virtual assistant perhaps, who will monitor a few forums in your basket. Give him or her a list of forums to monitor. Every forum has a "search" facility in place. If there's a software that can automate my suggestion, I'm interested to know what that software is.

Yes mate, that's how we currently do it. We have someone.

But it's a tedious process, and I have to believe in 2013 there's tools to do this more efficiently than manually chasing this each day.

Many forums do not HAVE RSS features, either. So that adds to the issue.

Then I suggest you check the JointVenture section of this forum. I just peeped in there a few hours ago. Perhaps, there are app developers who are willing to have an exchange of service with you in exchange to having him or her develop an app for you.

There's a program called Website Watcher. One of the features listed says, "Monitor forums for new postings and replies." Says it works with phpBB, vBulletin, IPB, etc. Seems like it might suit your needs.

I haven't tried it yet, but they do have a 30 day free trial. (Only available for Windows).

This is something you could hire a developer to do without much difficulty. You'd need to know a head of time what forums to watch though.
