Balancing your day job with IM

You took the risk and decided to go into IM, whilst still holding on to your job.

As you may have noticed, that's not always an easy task. In fact many give up due to all the stress involved. Combine that with you daily work, family, a spouse who may not always understand - and a whole lot of other things on your head.

Here are some of the things you can do to make things easier for yourself.

- Put in 7-10 minutes breaks at least once per hour

Your brain is a powerful machine, but it needs to re-energise itself. It automatically knows what to do so just allow it!

Would you cut down a tree without sharpening your axe? You wouldn't! In the same way, let your brain sharpen it's "axe" by taking regular breaks.

Focus on your "money" actions

Look, the only time you make money is when something is sold. This means your success partly comes down to two things: selling stuff or getting stuff to sell.

If you're not focusing on interacting with potential buyers (by creating content, sales copy, speaking directly, ect.) you're probably wasting a lot of time.

Likewise, if you're not finding or creating stuff to sell, you won't get very far.

The trouble is, we often get caught up in the technical stuff, even though those are not the things that bring us money! It's better to put about 80% of your time into the "money stuff" - Trust me, the technical stuff sorts itself out once the other parts are taken care of.

- Set a simple goal for the day and stick with it.

In Poland there is a saying "Spiesz się powoli!" ( "Make haste slowly!"). The trick is, you move faster when you slow down. It may sound crazy, but check it out.

If you can do just one task a day, all your energy will be focused on producing that result. Once you achieve it, the satisfaction will energize and motivate you even more to do the next one.

In the end, you are not overwhelmed but rather get a powerful feeling of achievement!

So there... those are my top 3 tips. I have been lucky not to work in a day job for a few years now, and these are some of the things that helped me.

What do you think? What are your favourite techniques? Write them below!

My rule for myself is the same rule I apply to my employees (eg. writers, designers, marketers). I am strict to my employees. If I set a deadline for their deliverable, I set a deadline for myself, too. Before I even put anyone into the Operations Team, I set proper expectations on what they should do if they foresee any incident that may prevent them from delivering their work on or before the deadline. I give them multiple media of communicating things to me just in case they lost their Internet connection and unable to inform me via email and/or Skype.

Being intentional about rest is definitely important.

But I also think it's important to understand that putting in the time (at night or beyond the normal job) is an investment that will pay off in years to come. Having that perspective gives me motivation everyday.

It also helps to be using a system/method that actually gets results on a consistent basis. This is a huge motivation factor.

    It's actually depends on motivation.

I started learning IM last 2002 when I was working full time as a manufacturing supervisor (8am to 5pm Mon to Sat). The first programs that attracted me actually were some MLM and then HYIP programs. Thanks that I never lost big amount in HYIP programs before I started blogging and learned programming. That time, I am spending more than 5 hours per night and sometimes until 3am despite of having a full day job. I was doing the same thing until 2010 when I quit working and decided to go full time on IM.

Now, I am spending almost 16 hours a day in front of my PC not because I write articles or promote all the time. I have my 3 monitors turned ON all the time because of forex graphs that I monitor every minute. I've been doing forex trading as part of my online activity for two years now while doing my regular IM job. before, my motivation was learning. Now, my motivation is money.
